Rating is trolling me
Normal race, i was awesome this time. I got hit 1 or 2 times, i was 2nd all the time (except last meters then i got 3rd), I hit 3rd guy like 5 times, got only 1 crash (that's why i finished 3rd). Result: -3 in rating. Next race, not as good as before but was like usual (pretty good if you want to know), finished 4th. Result: about -20 in rating. So... wtf? For worse playing im getting + rating.

EDIT: both races were in 10 players

I saw someone get a DNF and get +100, while my second place ♥♥♥ lost -60. Make what you will of that.

If you have a high rating then you will lose more rating. If you have a low rating then you will get more rating. That's how it works I believe.

i have about 1300 and i saw some players with 1500-1600 which were getting +100 or just + even if they weren't in first 3 (like 5th, 6th). That's annoying and unfair.

I don't see the point in a negative score to the rating system. Its a bit discouraging to be honest. It would be better to have a "0" points earned, rather than punish someone for playing online by taking away points.

I have a <Why should I care about a bunch of numbers that don't seem to make any logical sense> rank.

A lot of people. Definitely more than you think. Much people are seeing at rating to know how experienced you are. Stats are stats, it doesn't change anything in the game but everybody wants to have really big rating to show they are hardcores or whatever.

It's based on ELO ranking. You're competing with everyone in the race, not just those you beat.

Typically a low ranking player beating a high ranking player will boost the low player significantly, and reduce the high player significantly too.

If you're roughly the same rating, then the gain or drop won't be as close.

So let's say you are a high ranking player VS 9 noobs. You really don't want to lose...

We do this to ensure you put some effort in :)

I though it depends from driving skills and place you finished. So that means i was losing with noobs? 0_o I mean probably noobs. Good to know that. Next time i'll check who am i dealing with.

When I started (and when I hit up Lucky Dip as well) I found that when you have less than 1500 rating, you get an awful lot at a time no matter where you finish (or even if you finish). At 1000, I got three races straight where I had +100, and I didn't even win any of them. Once you get to the 1500 mark, winning gives you a pittance in rating, while losing or even getting a top 3 spot feels quite scathing. I know it's a side effect of the rating system, but I find that while I'm getting consistant top-3 finishes, I feel like i'm being penalized because I can't beat someone who has over 1800 rating, but the rest of the field is below 1300. Because I can do well, but I can't do perfect?

ELO doesn't make much sense to me honestly.

The ranking system is so non-sensical and random though, those numbers mean nothing in terms of skill, especially when it's near impossible to get anything above 1600-1800 without using the steam force closure glitch, because it's so happy to drop your rating 100 points just for losing, or getting dissconnected, or even lag DNF events, guys, you need to learn that number does not equal skill in any way shape or form, especially when most of the races are lucky wins due to some people getting the right weapons at the right time.

You are not a number, you are a free racer!

Yeah because it's ALL about effort when our speakers are filled with 'blowfish, swarm, blowfish, swarm' more than the music of the stage.. and the effort of leading for 2.5 laps goes away because of items, and then you lose the points you put effort in for. Yeah, the points are really balanced. NO points for leading laps, NO points for distance, NO points for not hitting walls... ONLY for where you finish, even if the network freezes you while u lose 4 positions. Effort? Funny how the two people before me also seem to have the same hard time understanding where the 'effort' comes in?

well, there was that time when I first played online, got into either 4th or the top 3, then screwed up and was in last and lost every single point I gained, and was back at default, now that stunk, one bad race shouldnt kill you

Stats in most games are like: biggest kill streak, best combo or time played. They are stats that are still incrasing so they can't show you how good you are. But here stats can also decrease showing you how experienced you are (or how much luck you have). For ex. you are skilled - high rating, you are losing with noobs, hardcores or you are out of luck - low rating. It doesn't show exactly how good you are but other players can know whu they are dealing with.

When i get bad place, fine, i can deal with decreased rating but not when i'm in top 3! When rating doesn't annoyes me i'm happy with race, unless when i get bombarded by every possible player; all-star doesn't change anything; i'm last and too far to reach somebody; i get spammed by all-star attacks (like 4 players with all-stars at the end of the race)... Thankfuly these things don't appear often.

Btw. I still think my english text looks chaotic and strange.

or you are out of luck - low rating. .

Luck should not account for a skill rating /argument

It is just a number, you shouldn't really focus that heavily on it in my honest opinion, I've seen "low rankers" whip the floor with "high rankers" and vice versa, it's just a number, I bounce up and down it like I just don't care, I bounce around 1100-1600, why do I just bounce around that bridge? because it's impossible to get out of that gap with the way the rating system works.

You should just ignore it and play the game like I do.
