Why is this game so under the radar?
Certainly deserves a hell of a lot more players than it has. The game is fantastic! However, its not even in the steam top 100, what gives? Do people just not play kart racers on PC or what?

Very little promotion for the Steam release, plus a similar title to the previous game. I bet a lot of people don't even realize it's a new game. Combine that with the lack of gamepads for a large portion of the user base, and it probably eliminates a lot of potential sales.

I don't expect Sega to spend a lot on advertising since they already did that once with the console release. Someone asked why they don't give away some TF2 items like they did for Spiral Knights, but it's probably not something they will do after it's already released.

The video on the store page almost makes it seem like a DLC, so maybe they could do a better job promoting it with a different video. I don't know if that costs money though, no idea how Steam works.

*shrug* All up to SEGA and Valve I guess.

Mario Kart. Nintendo's marketing effectiveness almost gives them a monopoly on the genre even with alternatives being availble.

There is no Mario Kart on the PC, so that shouldn't be an issue here. For the consoles though, maybe.

Well, Mario Kart is a household name. Sonic and All Stars Racing isn't. There's the marketing factor and the popularity factor.

Needs moar people praising about the game.
The posts of multiplayer connectivity issues, lag etc, and the recent exploits and hack posts that have come in here. It all adds to a bit of negative publicity. I'm almost certain that a person who is vaguely interested in the game comes to this forum and basically comes away with the message that the multiplayer part is completely unplayable and full of hacks, glitches etc. when it's really not.

Forums are usually a cesspool though.
These forums are actually surprisingly friendly compared to most others, plus the devs actually post.

I second this statement, even though it encourages caveat emptor.

It's the top selling Wii U game in the UK if it makes you feel any better.

Like, I have no idea why a trailer similar to one of these isn't the first thing to play when you load the store page:

They seem a lot better at showing what the game is about. They explain the basics of the game to someone who might not have actually heard about the game already. They don't only focus on the PC exclusives.

Lots of reasons really. Most people think these days that Sonic has gone down the drain and isn't worth anything anymore. Gamepads are not an issue and I can play the game comfortably using a keyboard. I think the main problem is lack of promotion.

i both like mario kart and sonic all star racing transformed, they both have a different experience to offer in my opinion, but i guess this is the kind of franchise that you'll better seen on a console like the wii or the wii U, actually mario and sonic both appear on a console so i think people already bought it on console, all we need is a little more advertise for the PC version ( i wish we had mario kart on steam :D )

While the general lack of promotion is an issue that's there across all SEGA games lately, the biggest crime here is definitely that Valve and SEGA didn't opt to make any promotional deal for items in TF2, which has proven to be a sure-fire way to get any sales on Steam games going, even for games that don't have any cross promotion material in that game. 'scuse me for a sec while I vent about this...

Worth noting is that TF2 has items based on three other SEGA published games: Total War, Football Manager and Spiral Knights. Spiral Knights even had a small mission and a few letters from Saxton Hale for the cross promotion, while the other two had nothing. Meanwhile, this game has TF2 representation in the form of a fully playable character with unique stats, three character representations that have 'decent' stand-in voices and is completely exclusive to Steam.

SEGA and Valve were out of their minds to not have a series of items based on all, if not just a few of the franchises represented in ASRT. Even just the Sonic Colours preorder hat for Scout would have done it, completely with a Knuckles-style RED Team palette! This was -the- Sonic game for 2012 (carrying into 2013 without any Sonic news about), delayed from the console version and boasting special exclusives for us PC users! Was there no discussions about TF2 promotion at all? Would it have killed them to just say any item ideas weren't able to be done? Could we not have just had a second-round of Genuine Total War items for using or fully leveling up the Total War/Shogun character as an achievement, much like how the Lugermorph could be obtained again in Poker Night through the achievement for beating Max, for those who didn't preorder Sam & Max Season 3?

Gah, dropping the ball is just too tame a phrase here.

Racing isn't as big a genre on PC. I don't think it's cause its Sonic. Cause Sonic Generations was a top seller for a few days.
