Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed

More like deformed than transformed
The original supported 4:3 screen formats and all resolutions.
I could play full screen 1600x1200 resolution no problems.
The transformed version, while it does look better graphically it does not support 4:3 formats and it does not support 1600x1200.
Was it THAT hard to continue to provide support for 4:3 and high res?
Most people take monitor support for granted because so far 99% of the games work with all monitors.

You know, instead of complaining about not being able to play in 4:3, why not just look at the bright side: you now have a wider field of view and can see more to your left/right side.

And just ignore the black bars, really. Pretend that you're watching a DVD movie, except that you can interact with it with a controller and stuff. ;P

I used to have a 4:3 screen too, but I always chose to play my games in 16:9 resolutions despite that. I have a widescreen now though, so that's a good thing for me when I first got it. :D

There is no bright side, because there is no wider field of view at all.
Imagine a 4:3 screen with a full image, now draw a wide black bar on top and on bottom, you dont have a wider lateral field of view, you just have a lower vertical field of view in reality.
Dont get me wrong, i like the game and i have been a sega fan since old genesis/mega drive times, but that doesnt mean i wont point out the fact that most their PC ports are half arsed.

You can change the way this or ANY game/app that doesn't support your monitor by tweaking settings in Windows... If you're to lazy to change then for one or two games everyt ime you play (then change them back) then it REALLY didn't bother you that much to begin with.

nobody has manufactured square screens in a decade. get out of your cave and go buy a 1080p monitor/hdtv, like everybody else on earth then learn to walk upright...

Why spend money to play at 1080 resolutions with blurry motions when i can play at 1600 resolutions with blur-free motion and native aa.
Funny how you learned to walk upright but didnt learn not to be rude for no reason.

Did you even read the post I linked you? Fine, I'll quote it again for the lazy ones.

what a horrible excuse. as a part time programmer adding different ui sizes for different ratio`s is a simple task. stinks of console port. which it was by the way.

When you've got a solution that can dynamically rescale an entire UI and HUD without stretching it out of a given aspect ratio, please do give us a call :)

I know it's easy to go 'Console Port' (which indeed we are!) whilst also overlooking...

Reworking the online play with a completely different API (Steamworks).
Full Steam 'Big Picture' support.
3 additional playable racers (some with multiple character models).
Controller support for both Xinput and Dinput devices.
Full Windows 7 and above Touch UI and In-game touch controls.
Full Windows 8 and above Tilt controls.
PC specific additional graphics, effects and set pieces.
Higher resolution textures.

...and that's before we look at the additional features we've added in (better voice chat options for one, VAC support too) as a result of forum feedback, or the three weeks we've spent putting in support for many older GPU's that don't support INTZ.

So I don't really feel we've been slacking off too much :P

If you dare call all that work "half-arsed" then you either have no idea what went into the PC version are you're just being a jerk who doesn't want to face the reality that 4:3 gaming is going the way of the dodo.

Why do people choose to vent complain and insult like this? Are people that entitled and ungrateful that they would so quickly toss the ax at the developers without a second thought?

Also, with the 16:9 aspect ratio you are seeing exactly what the rest of us see. If it was at 4:3, then you would be effectively seeing less than you would be on 16:9. Please do your research next time before posting. A simple search of previous topics would help so you aren't starting a new thread for an already addressed topic.

Excuse me

Do you even know what you're talking about?

Very funny post, your logic is flawless.
Asking how do people complain and insult (calling this port half arsed is an insult?), then going ahead and calling me a jerk and complaining and whining about my post like a baby.

Pro Tip: this game is not your mom and its not your dad, so stop having a fit everytime someone dares say something negative about it.

You claim that no effort was given to the PC port. I refuted your claim by providing evidence to the contrary.

Your entire thread is not constructive. You've already received your answer and you proceeded to rage while you have no one but yourself and chance circumstances to blame for not having a modern display.

You then proceed to lash out when someone points out how and why you are wrong. Face it boy, you're not saving face by insulting anyone else. It's just making you look worse.

EDIT: The logical fallacy you committed was the 'Irrelevant Conclusion'. Your argument cannot be sustained on it's own, so you make the argument "he's a fanboy so he must be wrong".
Whether I am a fan or not is irrelevant to the facts presented.

I think the answers in this thread should be saved for study purposes, they are fascinating.

I know being on topic is an awful thing, but the reason the old game supported 4:3 and this one didn't is because there were enough people who owned a wii that "porting" to 4:3 was worth it. This game was released on WiiU, so that wasn't an issue. If there were enough PC gamers that used 4:3 monitors then you'd have 4:3 support. The fact that there isn't 4:3 support pretty much says that there is not enough desire for it. This developer is very user oriented (as proven by the fact that they have responded to this exact complaint before).

EDIT: Honestly, if they had spent the time to rework the UI for 4:3 support and taken time away from useful PC features like the ones mentioned above, then I would say they are a bad developer

Also not sure what OP means when he says blurry motions at 1080p, this has not been the case for years when using flat screen monitors. You can buy a nice 1080p monitor for £100 these days. Go and upgrade and you will never look back!
