Mari is the server of drama simply because people exploit each other too much.
The first thing one must learn is to lone wolf the game to some point before joining guilds and participating, it helps you understand and focus on the fundamentals of combat, dungeons, and monster AI. The moment you play with other people consistently from the start, you will rely on them more or they would rely on you and that becomes a really bad habit. It grows on you and becomes a sort of self-centered ego where people think that they are all that and end up 'competing' with other people by harassing each other.
Mari was also the server where people act like celebrities at times. There are many incidents that I personally know that resulted in real world problems because of such drama (and yes there were blood involved as I have heard).

Mari does contain drama but if you are smart, you would just ignore the drama and only care about yourself and what is best for you. To avoid drama-don't be a show off, don't be a troll, join a guild that has decent reputation and that the guild leader avoids drama. Most of all don't get in to in game relationship.
