Why cant anyone make a good space sim?
First off you messed up by not making it a cockpit view. I feel like everyone has been waiting for a space combate game that takes us back to the freespace years where it was fun to use a joystick. If a game like that was made with online play it would be HUGE but yet again another disapoinment

Developers wanted to make cockpit view, but decided that it would be too inconvenient in online game. And I agree with them.

The battles are fast and with cockpit view you would have a disadvantage because of the limited view.

Forced cockpit-view and that problem would be solved.

Uh, last time I checked, Freespace didn't have a cockpit view. All it has is a HUD plastered onto the screen. Similarly Freelancer didn't have one either.

In any case. Even if it's a disadvantage, having the option would still be nice. You can turn it off if you don't like the fact that obscures your view, and if you like it for the immersion, then you can turn it on.

wait for X rebirth man. The current gaming community is filled with whiny kids that don't care about immersiveness, so the developers (who care about $ more than the pride in their product) make games towards the market. Makes sense.

Firstly, Space Conflict is clearly not intended to be a space sim. It's an action game based in space, in the same way Diablo 2 is an action game based in a fantasy world. It isn't trying to emulate the experiences you would actually enjoy in space, and is instead using a novel interpretation of the physics involved to deliver an action entertainment product.

A TRUE space sim wouldn't have dog fighting. Ships would be so far apart that battles would be fought out across entire star systems. Enemies would be represented as blips on a computer screen, and we would have none of this "fighters fighting fighters" stuff that we get in modern space games. Even games like Freelancer and Elite aren't actually space sims; they're fantasy games with a slight head nod to what it would be like if we were actually in space.

If you're looking for a real space sim, go and play Moon.

Freespace, freelancer both have the first person pilot view, if that fits your definition. I played both games extensively.

I beg to differ :) His question seemed pretty open to interpretation, even with the stuff about "♥♥♥♥ pit view". He used the term "space sim" erroneously; I picked up on that.

Having first person ♥♥♥♥ pit view != "space sim". Just to clear that up for you.

I consider cockpit and first person to be two very different things however. Well, cockpit is first person, but first person doesn't always involve a cockpit I mean.

Your choice, but you're missing out. At least try it first.
