Star Conflict [Is - Is Not]
This is my Is/Is Not List for Star Conflict, feel free to add to this, community!

Star Conflict:

Is - An awesome arena-style PvP FPS in spaceships with multiple maps and scenarios

Is Not - an MMO

Is - A breathtakingly smooth-to-control, graphically well-polished game in a field of mediocre "clunk-fests"

Is Not - A (currently anyway) sandbox experience

Is - A fast paced, action-oriented shooter with a good dose of strategy involved, especially in ship and module selection

Is Not - A brain-draining exercise in waiting for a fight

Is - An evolving and well balanced shooter, reminiscent of Eve and WoT, ie. imagine these games had a baby, this IS Star Conflict

Is Not - Eve or WoT

Is - For people who want to get into twitch based fights with flight controls and love dog-fighting, like true space dog-fighting

Is Not - For people who expect the same experience of most shooters available out there

Will add more as I am able. Cheers!

Is - The best PvP space shooter out right now

Is Not - For casual PvP'ers or PvE'ers

Works fine for casuals, actually. Can pop in whenever, do a battle, go on with other business again.

You described things typically associated with an RPG, not an MMO.

The definition of MMO is: "A computer game in which a large number of players can simultaneously interact in a persistent world."

Star Conflict doesn't have a persistent world, nor does it have lots of players at one time.

2K Players are lots of players.

The game has a running history with character progression online.. se the hint there?! ONLINE with PLAYERS.

So tell me about this persistent worlds you've seen in other non-scripted, player driven, totally not repetitive games you played.

Tell me about these worlds were you just saved a city from burning after talking to NPC 12345 in the chain of this EPIC PLAYER DRIVEN history and never saw the said city burning again.

Tell me about this game where loot 12345 pink with little monkeys stamped on it and not required to win anything can be made by players and totally not farmed from npcs or this non-repetitive endboss that you happened not to slay a bazilion times but just once...

Please i'm waiting oh wise one on the ways of online gaming...

But it's still not an MMO. Its not a bad game or anything, its just that not all 2k players are in a perisistant world. It would be like saying one of those online poker games is an mmo because there are thousands playing on it, but your only ever in a game with a few people at once.

Also dude relax, he's saying its a good game, you don't have to be derogatory to everyone

If you were being straightforward and not a ♥♥♥♥, you wouldn't be talking down to said person.

Therefore, you're being a ♥♥♥♥ AND it's still not a MMO.

goddammit people MMO isn't definable as a word because it is an acronym
  • Massively - It's not, the largest battles involve 32 players
  • Multiplayer - YES! it has multiplayer
  • Online - YES! it has online connectivity, not just LAN! Or rather, no LAN (not complaining.)

as such this game is an MOG, multiplayer online game.

MMO is definable as a word. Think about all the other words that didn't exist before gaming - such as the word 'gaming' itself, or the use of 'game' as a verb. It has had a definition attached to it.

You're being derogatory and you are in denial.

You're also wrong.

It's not a word, if it is, how is it pronounced? And "Em-Em-Oh" is not considered pronunciation for a word.

Well... Maybe I should be more specific: it is definable on its own, with or without taking into account the components that actually make up the acronym.

There are many such acronyms and abbreviations described in all sorts of dictionaries and resources, each with their own pronunciations, like: PHP, ASP, MySQL, nginx, email (electronic mail), pro (professional). PHP being an interesting one, a recursive acronym - PHP - PHP Hypertext Preprocessor, PHP - Personal Home Pages...

Also, I am sick of MMO being applied to nearly every multiplayer game, and little fanboys who don't quite understand what an MMO is.

I have been playing online games since the 90s. In battlefield 1942, we often had over 50 players playing on a server. in a sandbox style map, but this is still not on MMO and nobody even considered to call it that then.

An MMO is quite simply a game in which there are a massive amount of players, able to play at once in a persistent world... WOW, Planetside 2 - MMOs (MMORPG and MMOFPS + MMORTS).

12 -24 player games that exist in a finite world, arena style are simply NOT MMOs. Deal with it.

I cannot understand why some people find this so hard to fathom, I am starting to lose faith in the generations below me...
