Well here we are. Thief is ♥♥♥♥. Thats the truth it might have been good in the 90's but know it doesn't hold up for many reasons to numerous to name so here a few cons and pros of the game:
Graphics: The graphics are old thats the best way to say it but to be honest graphics quality doesn't really bother me but i know a lot of people are quite into their graphics so thats why its here.
Map: I have nothing wrong with map screens if they have some sort of sanity put in them but Garrett god bless him decided to draw them by hand badly so the fun of a non-linear world is ruined by having no way of navigating it.
Combat mechanics: Unlike most stealth games nowadays where there is a focus on action over stealth which is good because it gives variety and change to the genre but what makes a stealth game great for me personally is choosing how you would like to carry out your task. Basically whether you want to go in guns blazing or be more sneaky in your execution, Thief doesn't give you this option as the combat mechanics are really bad and trying to fight the guards is like trying to beat a dark souls boss while armed with a wooden stick.
Non-linear map: With reference with my map problems this is feature is sort of ruined but i am still going to add it because maybe you can decrypt Garretts map and get enjoyment out of the exploration of these massive maps.
Stealth mechanics: Brilliant, top of the range, amazing.. All words you could use to describe the stealth mechanics: Different materials make varied sounds either loud or soft forcing you to be more careful and thoughtful when you are sneaking through an area, The detail thats gone into the lighting and shadow casting is amazing for such an old game and it really adds to the dark grimy feel of the game but also makes for great stealth moments.
In conclusion. I do not recomend Thief as compared to the stealth games we have now a days (Dishonored and Hitman for example) and i know a lot of people are going to disagree with me but know they are doing it because they are filled with nostalgia and nostalgia can only be felt in people that played the orginal thief so if you are looking for a expansion on the orginial game with the same mechanics and atmosphere then go nuts but, if you are like me and have not played it then i would avoid this game as it doesn't hold up to games like Dishonored (my personal favourite stealth game) and Hitman.
P.S: Feel free to type as many hate comments as you want i am bored and i could use an inane arugument to liven things up.
