Having been strictly a console gamer in my youth, I still mostly stuck to consoles in my teen years. Only playing the occasional MMO or whatever my friends were playing. I bought an Xbox One soon after it was released. And the first game I bought for it was Thief. A reboot of a series I had never played due to never having a PC of my own, but had heard of it numerous times. I played the livng crap out of it and had a great time. But I was curious as to why what I thought (and still think) was a stellar game recieved constant criticism and was panned by fans of the original Thief.
About a year later, I finally got around to buying my own PC. And I thought "What's a classic game I haven't been able to play yet? Oh, yeah! Thief!" Without hesitation, I bought it and started it up. And boy, did it not disappoint. Excellent atmosphere, sprawling levels with excellent visual and sound design, tight controls, polished gameplay mechanics, and to top it all off, and intriguing story. I also recommend playing it on hard, but only if you're willing to spend three hours on one level.
No waypoints, no walkthroughs, no regenerating health, no enemies that give up after ten seconds of searching... This is a stealth game for only a true Thief. And I'm loving every second of it.
