Dark Souls is easily one of my favorite games ever made. The gameplay is sophisticated, but it isn't too complicated once you understand the stats and what they mean. Controls are tight, and everything works as it should. The world is deep and rich with an interesting lore. You'll want to read item descriptions and pay close attention if you really want to understand the world From has crafted. The story of the game is very implicit, but the direction is clear if you talk to NPCs.
Multiplayer is present in the game, with coop existing by summoning friendly phantoms to assist you in your world. There is also PvP, which is the main draw for me, and it's fantastic save occasional lag and balancing issues. One of the main problems with the game was that it used Games for Windows Live, but that's gone now and the multiplayer is better than ever. The PC Port is just god awful though. It's locked to a low resolution and framerate and the keyboard controls seem to have been designed by a monkey with half a brain. This is all fixed by Durante's mod DSFix, which is very easily installed. Once everything works as it should, the multiplayer of this game is phenomenal.
One thing I greatly dislike about this game is the "LOLOL DAK SOULZ SO HAAWD!" stuff. The game has a reputation for being brutally difficult and unfair, but that's just not true at all and it's really annoying. The game's difficulty comes from its punishing nature. If you make a mistake, you're gonna get messed up. Playing carefully is the only way forward (read: get good). Nothing about the game is intrinsically unfair; that's a construct applied to it by the kind of people that always blame lag when they die in multiplayer games.
The community in this game is fantastic as well, but it has its fair share of tryhard children that will send hatemail at the slightest infraction of their self-imposed moral code. I've gotten death threats for not bowing before a fight before. You learn to move past these people, and you find some of the funniest players on the planet. Youtubers like VaatiVidya, Iron Pineapple, and formerly OnlyAfro (Rest in Peace good Afro) make quality videos that add to the community of the game.
In summation, this game is a must-play for anyone that doesn't mind fixing a small amount of issues. The game is punishing, but never unfair and the multiplayer is to die for. Get it? Also, Git Gud
