Dark souls exe has stopped working
Alright, here's the deal. I have checked almost 15 + topics trying to find a solution to this problem, and created 5 different topics on different websites, there seems to be no solution. After i bring up the game, first up it tells me im not signed into GFWL, and that i won't be able to save, then after about 20 seconds the game just crashes saying the executable has stopped working. I have installed it at least 10 times by now over the course of a month or two. Is there any possible mod to fix this on the nexus? Or a way to get a refund for this or to at least trade games? I just wanted to play this game ...

Have you tried signing in to GFWL before launching the game? My DS always crashes if I haven't signed in to GFWL Marketplace in windows before even hitting the play button. I just leave the Marketplace running in my taskbar all the time.

Stops working?
That's a hard crash.

Aside from bad memory (which I doubt), you might have some missing/corrupt DLL's.

How long has it been since you freshly installed windows?
Can you check the event viewer for details on the appcrash?

Actually, now that you're talking about windows, could this be the problem? I'm currently running windows in a Debugger mode, it's also always being run in a test mode in the debugger one (if that makes sense.). However i can play any other game no problem,

Should note that the crash i get when I haven't logged into GFWL Marketplace prior to launching reports that the .exe has stopped working.

I've tried logging into gfwl before and after launching DS, says the exact same thing each time, also still says im not logged into it even thought i am when launching DS

hmmmmm....

Yeah, what exactly does event viewer say (under custom views > administrative events)?

It could be any number of driver / directx / kernel problems...so eliminating errors there is a great place to start, usually...

This is a REALLY vague error. (figures, amirite)
But here's what I can surmise from it.

0xc0000005 = Page fault in non-paged area
C:\Windows\system32\xlive.dll = the problem.

So the only way to fix this is to fully remove Games for Windows Live (control panel > programs), and then reinstall by using THIS[www.microsoft.com] msi. && Be sure to grab the one appropriate for your Windows (32 or 64-bit), as this may have been the problem in the first place! :3

Anyway, keep me posted. Sorry it took a while to respond....

Thanksfully, it's M$'s fault, not From!

PS) Do you happen to have Windows Live Mail installed?

Saw somebody else that had to remove that (or other Live essentials apps) for joy.
Symbiont Oct 14, 2012 @ 10:45pm
Welp, I uninstalled everything, installed that link you gave me, made sure windows mail is not there, and tried launching the game. This time it brought up the "preparing to launch" window, and after a second the window disappears and nothing happens. Tried relaunching steam, same thing. So I tried reavildating the cache because I got to sleep soon (3 AM here lol) and am getting desperate; which actually got the game to launch, but we're back to the original problem, exe has stopped working and not reading that the GFWL is signed in.

QQ

Anyways I got to sleep now, thanks again.

I was having a similar issue not too long ago. Go to your Dark Souls folder and check DARKSOULS.exe and DATA.exe's compatability. Somehow mine turned to vista and 256 colours on. Turning it back to Win7 and turning 256 off my game ran just like normal. Hope this helps, did for me, I know how frustraiting it can be. xD Good luck!
