Xbox 360 controller doesn't seem to connect
I just bought Dark Souls and i want to play with my Xbox 360 controller. Though it connects and it is shown ''device management'' i have no clue what to do next. I have it wired into my computer, when i turn the controller on, i can control my xbox, which in my opinion is quite strange because it is nog connected in anyway to my xbox. I installed the drivers and as I said earlier it connects to my pc. Then I installed the Microsoft Xbox 360 Accesories Status, where my controller does not seem to connect. In adition to that i installed Motionjoy & X360C but it still wont find my controller. I have no idea what to do to connect my controller, i was hoping someone could help me out here? Greetings, David.

try unplugging your xbox entirely. Unplug your controller and replug it after this. Uninstall and reinstall the drivers and reboot your pc.

You have to install X360CE in the Dark Souls data folder at C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition\DATA. Run X360CE.EXE there, configure it the way your joystick works, then allow it to create the DLL and INI files when you close it if it asks you. Shut down and restart Dark Souls if it is running and you should hear a beep when the game is starting up that lets you know that X360CE was loaded and now your joystick should work in the game.

EDIT: I'm not sure if you are using a Microsoft brand Xbox 360 wireless controller or what. If you are using a wired Xbox 360 USB controller and then you don't need X360CE at all, all you need is the Microsoft Xbox 360 accessories driver thing. Probably the same for a true Microsoft Xbox 360 wireless controller. Do realize that if you installed X360CE it will override XInput, so it could even block it from working properly. You should remove the xinput1_3.dll to remove X360CE if you are using a true Microsoft controller so that X360CE won't somehow confuse xinput and prevent your real Xbox controller from working.

Umm you said you can control the Xbox with your controller... Maybe it is not actually talking to the PC because it already has a connection with the Xbox. Try unplugging the Xbox and installing the wireless controller on your PC maybe?

I have a problem that my generic PS3 controller (Steelseries 3GC) will work EXCEPT when I try to run x360ce.

I start up Dark Souls without x360ce and it detects my controller. It works fine, except for some reason a lot of the buttons are switched around (Y&B, X&A, RT&RB, LT&LB all swapped. Analog stick press = back and start). I want to configure the controller so the buttons line up with an Xbox controller, but every time I start with x360ce the controller isn't detected and it doesn't work anymore.

I'm used to getting 360ce to work with games (Dead Rising 2 was a pain) and tried all the usual different options (disable passthrough, different hook modes, etc.) but it never works.

Anyone have any idea?

Try using motionjoy, but instead of setting it up for a ps3 controller, select xbox360 instead. That should fix the button issue, if not I'm not sure. I had the same issue with my logictech pad. Got through anor londo and just decided to get a 360pad.

Dark Souls only recognizes the first controller that Windows sees. If you right click on the controls whatever is listed first is what Dark Soul is going to try to use. To get the Xbox controller on top of the list you either have to unplug all your other USB controllers or disable their drives in Device Manager.

Now, do you have a Razer Nostoromo? If you do, disconnecting it won't work. You'll have to go into Device Manager, find it under the Usb Human Devices section and disable it there. Dark Souls should see the Xbox controller, then.
