No luck in blight town, need advice.
Man this place is a nightmare, I beat gaping dragon with a curse from that ♥♥♥♥ing frog which I had no idea about.
Then trying to get through to wherever the next godamn bonfire is as I cant backtrack to the last one, cos I fell down that sewer after killing the huge rat.
I accidently hit that merchant guy cos there was a frikking rat stuck on him like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥c when I was trying to talk to him to buy the armors he sold. (Which sucks ♥♥♥ cos I lost 36k souls not being able to use them on anything and died twice in a row before retrieval). So he flips out and wont stop chasing me, I kill him cos im thinking he aint gonna stop bugging me even if I die.

Bad mistake as OF COURSE he dosent come back to sell me stuff, but every ♥♥♥♥ing rat, frog and dog-♥♥♥♥-eating enemy returns. "BORING".
What I wanna know is how and where the hell blighttown leads, and how to get through it with a curse/next to no resources. As far as I can tell its graphical disaster, a semi-pitch-black area, with invisible walls, a hundred ♥♥♥♥ing blowgunner-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s firing at me from the pitch black places, to give my cursed 391 remaining hp the toxic debuff over and over. I can slowly and steadily kill one by one but the second a dart comes out of nowhere cos its so godamn dark its basically gg, try again. Its tedious and not fun to play, its not a challenge when it feels like annoying and repetitive due to cheap deaths from enemies so far away or dark on screen its like im being sniper camped by sniper wolf or the end in metal gear.
I can kill the enemies sure, BUT when they throw a toxic debuff on you and ruins your progress over and over its just plain annoying. The basic purple moss crap dosent work on toxic, well apart from the one with the white bit on the image, but it dosent matter cos immediately after I use it I get toxic again a few seconds later and waste my time.

What am I doing so wrong? It seems a bit far to backtrack to that guy who was selling curse stones in the church, I bought that anti-poison ring from him after the Gargoyles but hadnt the souls to get one at the time.
Let alone the fact I cant get this game to go online for co-op help cos of the stupid pos GFWL issue im still having. Cos it constantly tells me network error or email error or offline bla bla bla.

First rule of Dark Souls: Nowhere is too far away, you have to be patient about these things. There is nothing stopping you from getting to the Church and Oswald, slthough I believe that the female merchant at the sewers also sell a few purging stones (albeit a bit more expensive).

Concerning Toxics all I can say is learn their positions and proceed with caution, take your time, while you can't see the shooters themselves you can see the darts coming, and move slowly towards them. Keep your shield up as much as possible. Blighttown is the first area where you need to be very observant and cautious of the surroundings (it is considered to be amongst the most difficult levels), you try to rush though it and you'd fail.

It's actually rather rare for people to put their sign down at the beginning of blighttown, since it seldom yeilds benifits, so even if you get the game online there chances of getting help is slim.

On a side note, what build are you using? (weapons and stats)

I chuckled through a few points in your story, because I know what you're going through. I agree with Archa, nowhere is too far away in Dark Souls. You have to make the trip because it's worth it. Just go and farm Darkroot Garden for blooming moss clumps or purchase them from the merchant above the depths. Like what Archa said, approach the snipers closely and keep your shield up. The nice thing about the snipers is that once you kill them, they're gone forever. Be ready to get poisoned though, once you're down in the swamps, you get poisoned almost always. So make sure you have a good amount of purple moss. Trudge on back to Oswald, he'll be waiting for you with some lovely Purging Stones. Good luck mate, we all get our asses kicked in this game.

The blowdart snipers don't respawn. Feel free to suicide rush them.

As it's been stated, removing the curse should be your top priority. Oswald is pretty far, yes, but the Female Merchant's stones are about twice as expensive, so you take your pick on that one. In any case, doing Blighttown cursed is pretty insane, especially for a first run (sounds like a nice challenge for later playthroughs, though :D ).

Blighttown is optional you know. If you have the master key, you can totaly by-pass it and go straight to the Swamp.
Ramaloke Mar 28, 2013 @ 9:54pm
Blighttown is NOT optional as you will need to kill spider boss to ring the second bell. Also, it's really easy to go the back way. All you gotta do is climb down I think it's five ladders, jump onto the spinning elevator jump down and run to the left into a sewer drain BAM bonfire.

There are only four toxic blowdart enemies in the main path through blighttown and none of them respawn. If you are having issues with them, you might want to get your hands on the Spider Shield you can find on a ledge above the massive rat in the Depths as it blocks all incoming poison and toxic as well as 100% of physical damage. To get to it, backtrack from the Depths bonfire and drop down the chute next to the first Butcher and the Large Ember.

Going back to Oswald of Carim in the Undead Parish is the best way to get rid of your curse, and in future you should try and keep a few points of soft humanity in your stock to prevent curses if you're planning on fighting the Basilisks.

It IS optional. There's a tower next to the entrance in New Londo Ruins with a gate that can be opened from either the other side, or with a master key. The Gate leads to two paths. One to the center of Drake Valey, and a cave to the Swamp. If you go into the cave, you can go down a few ladders and an elevator-like platform to reach the swamp. You can also find those red mage robes down there, though I don't remember the name of the set. You also find the Remedy spell and a Firekeeper's Soul on two different branching short paths.

Actually, you can bypass the majority of Blighttown by going in via the back entrance with the Master Key. This allows you to skip the entirety of the Lower Undead Burg, the Depths and Upper Blighttown.

The female undead merchant sells purging stones she's close to the depths entrance.

They're considerably cheaper from Oswald of Carim though.

Yeah the nerdrage was meant to be a bit comical too hahaha.
btw, the point about the blowdart snipers was really helpful. I didnt know they didnt come back, I killed the first one, then another from somewhere else managed to snipe me and I didnt see where. So I tried the "gearless-dash-through the level" technique, to disasterous effects mostly because its a maze of sorts and cant really see whats coming up ahead, ran past these dogs on a wierd underground bridge and kept running till I eventually got so lost I fell off a cliff.

I havent seen the female merchant people are mentioning, and I actually went through the back entrance the first time I tried blighttown but this was ages ago before I even killed the taurus demon, and picked up that red cloaky armor thing with the pointy helmet. But was having trouble where there is that sewer with 3 blowdart gunners on top and dogs down below.

Id be having a much better time if there was a bonfire after gaping dragon, just so I coulda spent the 36k souls on getting to level 40 or whatever, think im 36 right now.

The gear im using atm is... a knight shield +5, and the elite knight armor +2 or +1, I swap for that cloth armor sometimes cos the resistance is different, havels ring, the +400% resistance to poison ring, erm that moon shaped spear thingy I got from that legless monster near the blacksmith... lemme find an online pic of it... this thing: http://darksoulswiki.wikispaces.com/file/view/titanite-armed.png/264576492/432x258/titanite-armed.png . It hits sewpah hard and has a lot of range, why I like it, plus I havent really found anything better yet.

Oh and a longbow.

Also I know its dumb but the first time I found a fire keeper soul in the church and read it, I thought use item would upgrade my flask, instead it gave me some humanities hoorah, but I wont be making that mistake again. ¬_¬

Going the proper way through blighttown is definitely a pain, but it is good experience since its really a good way of saying things are going to be a lot less forgiving from here on.

Also the spider shield that you can find in the depths will completely negate poison attacks that you block, so its highly recommended against the blowdart snipers since you can just easily walk up to them while blocking.
Paps Mar 29, 2013 @ 5:52am
Oh really spider shield does that? I think I have one in the bottomless box.

Yep, adding on to that you can use Dung Pies and toxin yourself. It's far weaker than the Sniper toxin and you cannot be Toxined by a stronger source if you're already under Toxin. As mentioned, they don't respawn and they have only like 120 HP, so a few attacks from just about anything kills them.

P.S. Did I mention that they can be Poisoned/Toxined themselves? A good tactic should any of you have the patience.
