It's not a bad game, but unfortunately unlike some better games that are more than the sum of their parts, the shortcomings here will seriously hamper the enjoyment.
On normal difficulty the health system is generally useless - after dying you'll respawn in the checkpoint with full health. In addition most of the time you would get killed from full hp just as easily.
Speaking of getting killed - it will happen, due to traps you don't know are there, occasionally misbehaving controls and also bugs. Most of the time it's not that big of a deal on normal difficulty, and by the time you'll unlock nightmare difficulty you only need to worry about last two reasons, but there are plenty of places where after dying you need to watch the same unskippable animation over and over.
Story in itself is decent, nothing too spectacular though. But the delivery method of the backstory, up to the starting point of the game is kind of flawed. It is given through a journal that has some middle parts missing and you can find those in game. That makes it questionable when would be the good time to read it - if you try to read it at start, it has plenty of missing story, if you read it after collecting all the pages, you've stumbled in the dark for too long. Most of the missing pages don't even provide spoilers for the story, so it's hard to fathom why exactly was it decided to solve like this.
