Do surprisingly well on your first exam (This is, intentionally, almost impossible to pull off correctly. That's why the professors are so surprised.)
Make friends with Donald when he's playing the prank after the first exam and he may invite you to earn merits
Taking responsibility for something that happens during freshman initiation will initially lose merits but eventually mean you gain them all back and then some
At first he'll dock you ten merits and give you detention, but then Damien will go talk to him. Afterwards, Grabiner will come and give you the merits back, cancel your detention, and give you an extra ten merits for admitting that you wrote the letter.
afaict it's not possible to with the election for president, but you get shiny bonuses if you play to lose and choose the crazy-person options. Also, it's hilarious.
If you are Treasurer, you have the option of doing Grabiner's path. If you are not, you do not.
It does not make any difference HOW you got the merits to run for treasurer.
