Game won't play past specific cutscene

I'm having a problem with a specific cutscene in this game. Half way through the cutscene, the screen goes black and the "loading" cauldron appears in the lower right hand corner. Nothing else happens, no matter how long i leave it on this screen for.

Alt-tabbing out and back in at this point makes the sound (but not the video) for the cutscene continue playing until it reaches the end, and then nothing. The game will not load the next section. I can't skip cutscenes in the story mode so i'm pretty much stuck.

I've tried starting a new game and the same thing happens in a different cutscene much earlier on .

I've searched extensively and no one else seems to have had this problem. Can anyone help?
