2 huge glitches in Year 3, The Dark Tower, Story Mode
On my first play through of this level, I didn't have any problems untill I got to the part where you have to brew a strength potion. When trying to get the purple gargoyle to smash the window so I could get the bone, it wouldn't work. It would show the animation and play the sounds, but I could not go through the "door". I looked up that a fix to this would be to turn some graphics down, so I did. However after doing that, the statues that you need to avtivate to melt the ice on a door would cause my game to crash. I have since found a fix for that problem. I was just wondering if someone else has had this problem and if they found a solution that fixes both of these glitches.

You don't have to play the entire story on lower graphics....
You can change your settings at any point just by pausing the game, change to lower graphics/effects (switch off extras) then do what is needed on the lower settings, and after reset them to how you like them to carry on through the chapter :)

Right. However, the statue glitch comes before the gargoyle glitch. I originally only had to deal with the gargoyle not breaking the glass, and when I tried to turn down the graphics to fit it, that's when the statues would cause my entire pc to freeze, causing me to force shutdown. I've tried several "fixes" but they don't seem to be working. They either fix one or the other, and I need both fixed to progress past this level. And since all of this is hsppening in the same level, I can't just fix one and save, then fix the other and continue. Once you leave the level before you complete it, you have to restart from the begining when you try again.

Play the game through on your normal settings to get through the statues, get onto the balcony, pause the game, choose OPTIONS, change your settings/effects, resume game and play through for the eagle gargoyle breaking the glass, then if you wish to resume your normal settings/effects to finish the chapter just pause again and change them back.
Hope this helps :)

I didnt have the gargoyle problem, but for the statues if you keep one of the characters farther away and switch as soon as you activate the statue it should let you get past it. Its the animation that causes it so if you dont see the animation it doesnt freeze. You do have to do this for both statues tho.

From steam forum

I found this solution:

"Changing to enhanced graphics or any of the other proposed things DID NOT work for me - HOWEVER this BELOW worked(found it on videogamegeek.com forum). I'm in Year 4 now yay.

I found this proposed solution - going to try it :

There is a fairly common glitch in this level, which even upgrading to Win8 didn't manage to solve (all the other bugs seem to have gone with using the max requirements):

Near the beginning, after building some big flowers that fan you up to a ledge, you are required to do a spell on some statues that breathe fire, melting ice in front of a door you need to go through. What happens is that when you do a spell on them, everything freezes and the game crashes (sometimes even needing hard shutdown on the computer).

Some people have had luck with two-player mode, doing the spell and then quickly switching to other player standing down near the flowers, because what seems to crash the game, is the animation of the statues breathing fire.

However, I have found a solution that does work, without having to fiddle with several characters (and if you are late switching, game freezes still).

Here we go though:

*Go to C:\Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data\WB Games\LEGO Harry Potter\ (on XP)
or C:\Users\your username\Appdata\Roaming\WB Games\Lego Harry Potter\ (on Win8)

*Find a file called pcconfig.txt, back it up (I just saved a copy on the desktop, to use whenever needed), and then change DesiredDynamicLightQuality to 0 (near the bottom of the file). That is basically what is causing the problems. Although I read in some forum post or another, that Tt answered someone who contacted them, to change everything below MouseSensitivity to 0, so if you want to be extra sure...

That will cause all the lights to look weird, but at least the game doesn't crash anymore.

*After finishing the level, follow the same path again and replace pcconfig with the one you backed up earlier (you did back it up, right?), to get your original settings back. You do have to quit the game and restart it for it to work of course. Just sayin'. "

Try changing your File Explorer Settings..
Start typing File Explorer Options in your search box and click to open a small window. Select 'View' in the menu and scroll down the list. Make sure 'show hidden files, folders, and drives' has a check mark and that 'Hide extensions for known file types' is unchecked.
This should enable you to see the pcconfig.txt file required to make the changes.

Hope this helps :)

These links might help too.

Just tried the links but still froze probably just not fast enough, and made sure all my video and effects settings were set to the lowest setting possible, and also still could not find my pcconfig.txt did the settings u suggested but still cant find as the install doesnt show up on my pc but inside steam instead and the file isnt in there either and also im running windows 11 so not sure whether that will make any difference or not as the original fixit was meant for windows xp or windows 8

To find the folder location in win 11 you can: open Run (type'Run' in your windows search bar), type "%appdata%", press Enter. There you should be able to find the "WB Games" folder.

Alternatively, you can go to: C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\WB Games

Hope this helps
