I won it through steam gifts nothing said it was a beta or anything and now it says to purchase. Was going to give it another go after some months later but this was just unexpected. Gonna have to also say that I feel there's no way in hell it's worth $10 even if they improved things from what I last played.

I go on steam gifts aswell :) If you won it and its not gone and says purchase, it means that his payment method had failed and your gift was rovoked.
