Horrible controll system
This game is very pretty and extremely well made. I enjoy both the graphics and the music.
But I have to say about the controlls. They are horrible.
Not just horrible. They are beyond ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ by programming decision. I have no idea how a programmer can f* up the simplest of controll system.

There are two major flaws I want to point out to make my understanding:
1,) Combat: Yeah, it's bloody, yeah, it's badass, but the fusion of all the attack types to one button is impossible to handle, especially you need to react fast in later stages.
Kicking and hitting with the same button?! It's impossible to channel each attack type differently. For example if several enemies show up and you have to run up to them, I have to kick some away. Not possible if I run up to them because I do immediate dive attack and instead of kicking continiues hitting, the enemies can kill me in an instant.
When some enemy shows up behind me and I have to turn around, I can't hit them. My computer always kicks then.
Do you understand? You cannot fusion two different attack types to ONE BUTTON because it's overclusted. It's not making the game "hard" and "unforgiving", it's making the game impossible in the simplest aspects.

2,) Double jumping. Yes, I hate double jumping, especially in a 2D game. But this takes the cake. It is worst on wall running. The protagonist isn't fixated on the walls and I have to press a direction key to hold at it. But then I have to jump to another wall. One thing if I go to the opposite direction, it will be recognized as a jump, and when I press a jump button, it will immediatly activate the double jump, and I have to retry again, or worse, start from the checkpoint if I die. The problem with double jumping is the momentum. The momentum is not in this game, and quite frankly, makes the game more like luck based plattforming than challenging hit- and -miss. Besides that, the momentum of a jump after being hit while in air is painfully long. I cannot recounter that way and escape.

This game could have been a lot better, one of my gotyay, if the developers would have worked out the controlls more carefully and offered an easier handling.

So, to avoid a s*tstorm, I'm better off then.

I have to disagree. The controls are stellar. They are responsive and you actually feel the character.
Double jump feels great and I've never had any problems with precision platforming. I died mostly due to my own stupidity than failed double jumps.
One button combat makes already said combat more strategic: should I go for slower but more stylish moves to score more blood points to fill the Sigil, or should I just finish the enemy as fast as possible? This is what other one button combat games lack and makes this game stand out.
And all of this has been done with the keyboard.
Really, those are the best controls I've experienced after SMB.
I sort of agree with both of you.
1. I agree sometimes the combat is a bit hard to control, but it really just takes some getting used to.
2. I have not had any problems with double jumping, and I agree these controls are fantastic.

Personally I think the controls are great and really couldn't have been done any other way without sarcrificing some of the challenge and gameplay

What do you use for controlling? when you use keyboard i can understand its a bit clunky when it comes to controlling but i myself use a controller and it works pretty well for me i rarely die and think its because of the controlls and more because i made a mistake also sometimes i have the feeling its a bit try on error but i feel its a bit better then games like Super Meatboy because of the Checkpointsystem and yeah combat is a bit difficult at the start but with a bit practice it gets better

Yes, I am using a keyboard. I don't own a controller, I'll probably get one in a few months.

I use keyboard and think that the controlls are great Some of the jumps are tricky though.
I use a keyboard and I'm perfectly fine with this, although I do understand if other people have iissuses with it.

jumping system is okay, non-stop run is boring sometimes, combat system controls are badly done

I think the combat is the best part actually...its challenging but not impossible..

I use a controller and it handles like a dream. Combat is more about how creative you can get. Jumping can be tough, but that was one of the selling points for the game - extreme difficulty.

Hi Tantrix,
I'm not going to address the first part of your post, obvious from the other comments some folks love the combat others don't. It's a matter of taste. Though a controller is definitely recommended.

However you're slightly mistaken about how wall sliding works. You do not have to press against a wall to stick to it. That's done automatically. Once you hit a wall and start sliding you can let go of all the controls and you will still stick. Also if you're trying to jump away from the wall, hit jump and then push away.

If you are experiencing any sort of lag in the controls it is very likely that the game isn't running at full speed. Try turning off v-sync, parallax etc...

Hope that helps!

I'm playing the game on a controller and I agree with you about the double jumping. The combat is perfectly fine however. What would make the game better is if there was an air dash of some sort -- there have been times in which my attempt at a double jump doesn't get recognized by the game.
I think we can stop commenting on this

I agree with the OP the game is good but man, those controlls.

I agree. The poor control system--particiularly with the fighting--is what has made me decide to stop playing this.

GREAT platformer, poor fighting game; and I bought it more for the combat

The controls make me feel like I'm playing Smash Bros. At one point my Smash reactions kicked in and I pressed L trying to shield lol
Anyway, the controls are great. GREAT
