Perhaps it's a limitation of that library, I wish it wasn't :)
Go download MotionInJoy, and set it for 360 emulation. Then it will work fine. If you have a compatible Bluetooth adapter, you can even use the DS3 wirelessly.
(The movements seem to be binary though, so it should not make a technical difference if you use a keyboard or controller)
It disguises your PS3 controller as an X-Box 360 controller so you can play all the games with controller support,
The screen still says X-Box 360 buttons but you can use PS3
Do you really think they want you to use anything other than their over-priced controllers?
The reason people find keyboard suboptimal for games like this is simple: They only give the keyboard a few minutes chance then switch to a controller, it takes time to learn to use a keyboard properly, but once you do, a controller offers no viable benefit.
I've yet to encounter a single 2D platformer where keyboard wasn't a perfectly capable option.
It's a shame, with the XNA studio being such a great facilitator for creative minds, that it practically forces this accursed thing into the user's hands.
I'm also one of those people with the SNES button pattern hardwired into his brain (namely the placement of Y, X, B and A), so I'm guessing emulating an xbox controller would still feel a bit iffy. Good thing I'm okay with keyboard controls :S
However, I doubt OP will find this info useful since he made the thread in May.
