F U checkpoints!!!!
2 things I hate about the checkpoint system:
1. Like many people already suggested, a checkpoint should be activated by the press of a button, and not automatically. I know one can crouch or keep jumping in one place, or view your surroundings in order to avoid this happening, but still it is an inconvenience.
2. You messed something up, either you missed to collect a page, or kill a monster, or whatever ... but if you use a new chekpoint then you wont be able to go back to a previous one, and in this way fix what you did wrong. Only option here is to start the level all over again. Bullsh-it!!!
I like this game, but this freaking checkpoint system makes me want to quit and forget about TBP. If there is a sequel or something .. please fix the saving system devs .. please.

you can still backtrack after you made a checkpoint in a lot of cases so your second point is kinda pointless.

What should I do when a gate closed, preventing me from going to the area on the other side of it?
Oh right ... I should just use the teleport ability!

It would be nice if checkpoints could be bound to a button instead of being used automatically.

Overall, I like the way they've done checkpoints in this game. It makes weight the risks and rewards of spending that checkpoint now, or trying to get a little further in the level before using it, with the risk that you might lose it completely if you get killed.

Wait a second... *goes back and looks at the TB video* I thought the checkpoints WERE at the press of a button, and you got points for not using them? or did they patch that out?

Checkpoints were always a wait-on-the-spot-to-spawn affair, never a button. Someone may have been mistaken.
