Crash during load-up

Every time I try to load up TBP, it crashes completely after the "Gamepad is recommended" screen. I even tried disinstalling and reinstalling, but it didn't seem to do anything other than make the loading time before the crash shorter. I just got a new controller to use with this game, which was one of my favourites when it was working. Now I can't play it at all.
Have any of you hit a similar bug and found a work around?

Can you provide computer specs and gamepad model? Maybe some information about error?

I don't get an error message, and it crashes even without the crontoller plugged in. The screen just goes black, before switching to windowed mode and freezing white, and then after about five minutes my computer'll alert me with a "They Bleed Pixels.exe has stopped working."
As for computer specs, what exactly would you like to know about? I'm not very technical minded, so I'll have to look it up.
