3 OUT OF 5. recommend.but not very enthusiastically, and NOT for full price.
I really liked the first games, and the add-on packs. I was disappointed by this one.
Definitely not up to the usual F.E.A.R level. I don't like losing weapons after almost every interlude. , Also weapons have stupidly low levels of max ammunition. I wouldnt go into combat with only 150 rounds in my primary weapon, and I died quite a few times scrambling to try to find another weapon that had ammo.
The rendering isnt the most accurate. By which I mean you can be behind a barricade, and since this primitive game doesnt allow the lean feature, the only way to shoot from cover is to try to shoot over or expose your whole body shooting around. If the center of a sandbag barricade is 4' high and the sides are 3' high, you cant shoot over the sides unless you aim higher than the center. You can SEE but you can't shoot. Also if throwing a grenade, the trajectory is as if you're tossing from your testicular level. I never carried 'nades by my 'nads. .
The worst part is the new "Captain?" who somehow craps out enemies relentlessly so that you need to try to kill him (and he takes a lot of killing), while dealing with attackers spawning from all around you. THen at one point when you're low on ammo two of them spawn. They can appear anywhere, you cant escape them, so you die over and over.
Since they've gone the ever-popular console route, there is no way to save manually so you'll have to replay over and over to get past the areas where the enemy keeps respawning 5 and 6 at a time. One other criticism. When mapping keys, you cant reuse keys for different functions if in a mech suit or on foot. So you have to try to find keys you can reach easily and remember what they are, or remap every time you switch from armor to foot. Yes, it's a minor criticism, but most good games have a separation between vehicle key mappings and on-foot key mappings since you obviously wont be doing the same actions in a vehicle as you would on foot.
This isn't the worst game ever as some have said, it's just not fun enough to put up with the negatives. When the bogus (I"d use something else that has B and S in it) level got too high, I just stopped playing. I'll wait before buying for any future "Day 1 Studios' games, checking online for HONEST reviews and not reading reviews posted by the seller.
TWO GOOD THINGS: the challenges to level up added in single player are a pretty cool feature,. Even better, and the reason for the third start, is that the long cutscenes in between levels ARE SKIPPABLE! (pay attention Fart Cry duhvelopers).
NOTE: I didn't try multiplayer, just single, campaign.
