F.E.A.R. still outshines modern shooters in some aspects.
Pros: Story, Gameplay, Graphics, Sound, Controls
Cons: Horror, Repetitive, Multiplayer
Though a bit telegraphed, F.E.A.R. does have an interesting narrative to unravel. Gameplay is solid; enemy AI is much better than most shooters nearly a decade later. Most modern systems can handle the game at maximum graphical settings, an often overlooked advantage. The sound and voice acting is excellent. Controls are good but not quite thoroughly refined (e.g. no hold-down aim).
Unfortunately, F.E.A.R. is not particularly frightening, especially to someone wanting to be scared. The gameplay and environments become a bit repetitive after some time. Finally, multiplayer has long since shut down.
Overall, F.E.A.R. manages to create a little fear without abusing jump scares or monster closets.
