Game keeps crashing during first level

I get an error message before I ever finish the first level of "Lego Batman The Videogame main executable has stopped working." This happens on Lego Batman 2 as well. I'm running Windows 8.1 64-bit and have 8GB RAM.

Is this a system compatability problem, or is it a bigger, more common issue? Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

Running in compatibility mode for vista (and as admin, though that may not be needed) fixed this issue for me. It's also probably worth updating your drivers.

Running in compatability for Windows Vista Service Pack 2 resolved the issue for this game.
Compatability for Windows 7 solved it for the second one.

However, Robin's little green car for the tech suit won't move at all. Very disappointed with this title for PC.

For this you need to turn on V-Sync.
