If anyone is looking for other hidden gems like this one I would also suggest looking at "vampire: the last masquerade".
It seems to me that nowadays everything that has magic and swords in it is considered an RPG.
Even worse yet, if it has skill trees and character creation (Skyrim, Diablo) then ppl will fight you to call it an RPG
RPG - ROLEplaying games very core is creating a personality. That can only be done by interacting with the world and npcs. Reaction to different situations and characters.
A fantasy theme is just an icing to RPGs just like character creation, skill trees or the use of magic is just a features for the RPG genre.
There's literally nothing in this game that makes it an RPG. And it's not a bad thing. It's a great game! It is!
It's not RPG...Skyrim is not an RPG. It doesn't make them bad games but please...labelling them with false genres just makes us, who really dig RPGs, gringe.
Fantasy setting does not equal RPG people ;)
I know IGN and Gamespot claim otherwise but last i checked Sims 2 was labelled as an adventure/action aswell.
I can understand why RPG junkies would want to not call it an RPG but it does have Roleplaying elements in it, the thing is, your character is fixed and has his own agenda, you fill in the blanks with gameplay.
Well i do the same in Call of Duty too. I put myself in the shoes of another, fixed, character and fill in the blanks with gameplay.
I can even run into walls and say i'm roleplaying: my character got head trauma after the last grenade hits and now he finds walls interesting.
I know what you mean but it still doesn't make it right.
The word means what it means, just because the role doesn't offer much freedom doesn't make it not an RPG it just makes it a very limited one.
Pretty much every game is an RPG, sports games for example.
