It's worth way more than that. And yes.

Yes it's worth it. The main quest is really the only quest, it's a pretty linear game, like HalfLife.

Yes, I still play it through it once a year. Since 2006,

Just buy it.

You can build multiple characters that play totally different and there are lots of secrets and alternate routes to discover.

Graphics aged quite well, only some modern shaders missing.

Imagine a linear Skyrim made up of unique dungeons and settings, where every item and skill is unique and something significant, not just a +0.5 stat upgrade.

Apparently nobody mentioned the kicking yet. As long as you have stamina you can kick everything. While this will make larger enemies merely stagger, you can kick regular ones into each other, at spikes and the likes on walls or into pits. At the time when accurate physics were new to gamers, this was a crapload of fun (and still is).

You can use the environment to dispose of enemeis as well. Throw a bottle of oil onto the floor, wait for enemies to get near it, throw a fireball at it and watch them writhing in agony while they burn to a crisp.

Secrets are also more than just taken a wrong turn and stumbling across some ammo lying on the floor in a dead end. More like put a candle holder next to a fire place and turn it to open a secret passage behind it only to have you crushed inside because you took your sweet time not noticing the walls closing in.

Average play time will be 10 hours per playthrough, 15-20 if you search every nook and cranny for some special armor, a neverending quiver or shiny staff. You'll probably play through the game 3 times or more, one for each archetype of adventurer:

The path of the Warrior allows you to wield the strongest weapons, wear the heftiest armor and unlocks special skills like jumping and running attacks.
The Rogue turns the game into Thief/Splinter Cell, allowing you to hide in the shadows, backstab your foes and pick locks.
The Mage has access to elemental and special magic. Lay magic traps, throw lightning, charm enemies and use telekinesis.
You can mix and match those three of course.

So yes, Imo it really is worth it.

No.
You DO choose (by spending your earned skillpoints, along the way) between three "careers".

It's sort of like Skyrim, there are different skill trees you can choose from, so you can customize your skills as you advance.

As always, look for a demo. Though I have to admit it's one of my favorite games due to the combat system and RPG elemets. The story is... alright, I just wish their was more modders interested in it, even if it were just some adventure maps.

Don't play the demo, it was for XP and doesn't function correctly on newer OS's. Just buy the $50 worth game for $11.

Well... I tested it out on my Win8 to see if that was true... so far it's crashed or froze so bad my keyboard wouldn't respond (The caps lock wouldn't toggle it's light, Ctrl+Alt+Del not working, and neither does Alt+Tab) So I suppose this is true. Though I think it may still work on vista as well as XP. But that's just a guess.

But as much as I would rather have you be safer with it and not have a chance to regret what you've bought. Dark Messiah is definitely something I would like more people to get into, hopefully with cool maps and such, and some multiplayer servers in the north would be great to have.

I still enjoy playing Dark Messiah to this day and would definately recommend it to anyone who was considering buying it. The multiplayer is awful (in my opinion). No one really plays it. Last time I plaeyd the multiplayer was in 2009 I think and there were only 20 people on. Also, don't abuse the kick attack. It honestly takes away from the game. My only complaint with Dark Messiah would be the kick.. With the game's physics engine the foot can pretty much be the most OP weapon in the game. The characters are forgettable. No character in the game is all that interesting apart from Xana. There is a nice selection of weapons for you to forge and find as well, all of which look very good. The game does kind of lean more towards the typical sword and shield gameplay and I wish they had put in a skill tree for 2 handed weapons but oh well. You'll have fun playing just about every class.

But if you want slashing and gashing and magicy things then yeah, pick it up. I found it really enjoyable and it even has secret rooms and stuff for you to discover and as a life long Duke Nukem fan I LOVE secret/hidden rooms.

I spent above 1k hrs in dark messiah multiplayer and never felt bored. There's not many games like this. Multiplayer is not dead. Turning off the master server browser by ♥♥♥♥♥oft doesn't mean that you need leave the game forever. There are still 3 servers online, russian but ..... Still aliive 😉 MP has bugs and many veterans like to overuse them as an advantage, but instead blaming them I would consider blaming ♥♥♥♥♥oft which didn't let Kuju and Arkane fix the issues.
