I can only speak for myself but i realy enjoy this game its an awesome timekiller and cause of the faboulos mod support you can get extra content so easy only downside ar some bugs i cant speak for myself because so far i didnt encountert one but some peps got some wierd problems but the dev try to charge the bug fixes out as fast as possible (also he announced that he already work on a big content patch in about 2-3 months) so i would say we will get some good content soon also when you have a buddy you can play it in splitscreen (no online Multiplayer buts it has a good reason cause of the complex physx engine cause you can destroy everything on the map) and again the is new content comming so i can only say if you like games like worms you wont regret buying cortex command

The major bugs are: neverending campaign (even when you've clearly won) and units exploding when you put them in gold digger AI mode. I've never really had that problem because I never put them in any AI mode.

Problems that are likely never to be fixed due to the fact they are related to the game engine (I hope they are fixed): the longer a battle lasts, the laggier your battle will get. This really isn't a problem, but if you really like multiplayer, there never will be online multiplayer. Not everyone has a huge computer screen (or tv screen) to do local multiplayer.

I've had fun despite these things, it's up to you whether you decide to buy it or not.
Keep in mind this game isn't finished yet.

The game certainly has a few flaws in it, such as units sometimes blowing up for new reason and, from my times with it, baddies and friends alike sometimes (Although I don't think it's too common) suddenly shooting at things they can't see and somehow hitting them and/or killing them. Although it still needs a few tune-ups, the game is great due to the amount of replay value and freedom one has. Almost anything can be possible in this game, from rebel-style cave bases to castles guarded by undead hoards.

I for one am a sucker for this kind of freedom to build and form whatever I can afford with my gold.

I've also noticed that if you get enough items on screen at least on my system it will start killing off random bots. Drop enough stuff at once and half the time everything on my team will explode or if not the enemy will. Get enough debris in a spot and sometimes anything walking over it will just disinegrate. Game will lag with a large base, doesn't matter what your system resources are.

Other than the mentioned quabbles its a fun game to mess around in, I'd just wait for the inevitable sale, unless your made of $$$ and can afford the price for a game you just screw around in ala Garry's Mod.

First thing to come to mind is Minecraft. I remember buying that game for 20 bucks when it was still beta, back when a bow was able to fire like a machine gun and when the only thing you could plant and harvest was wheat.

Now you can do all sorts of stuff in that game. You can build a farm with animals and harvest all kinds of crops, and now with villages full of villagers with deep pockets, you can sell your produce to them and use the money to buy whatever you need, rather than going through the trouble of mining. Not that mining isn't fun, but the fact that you can enjoy the game in more than one way with nearly no limitations truely makes it a great sandbox game.

If Minecraft could reach such a fine level of greatness, so could Cortex Command.

Minecraft was about $14 back in beta. Also, the Cortex Command devs now consider this to be a complete game with the release to Steam. However, I believe Data said that he plans to polish it a little bit more before moving on to their other games.

Well, he wouldn't inform you ingame that there were still items that needed polishing if he believed the game was perfect as it is. Empire Earth 3, on the other hand, is what some people think Cortex Command is: A game that claims it's complete, despite all the clear as day bugs and game breakers, among countless other flaws that really stand out. Compaired to EE3, CC is at least further tested than that failed RTS... Not that I don't enjoy it.

Also, when I got my minecraft, it was 20 bucks at the time. I guess you got yours when it was far, far younger. Or maybe it was 14 bucks? I can't recall, it's been a long time ago when I got it.

Yes.
It's a really fun game with a massive modding community.
The game on it's own is awesome but once you start installing mods it really becomes incredible.
Tleno 1 nov, 2012 @ 11:25
To be honest, at current state it may appear pretty unpolished, so you should some time for it to get updated if you prefer your games to be flawless.

Now, about the gameplay... i really recommend this, game, no, I insist you should buy this if you:
-Enjoy mods, and beeing able to play mods or scenarios crated by community is a big pro for the game for you. Atm there is no Workshop, but the mods for CC are easy to install and to create.
-Prefer Gmodesque sandbox play where you desire to do anything you like. Seriously, this game is booring without creativity!

@OP: Game has it's issues.

Wait for a sale, there is hope the game gets an update or two before then.
Scourge 2 nov, 2012 @ 0:40
Don't buy it. It's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ waste of your money.
You're better off just downloading the earlier versions.
you can have an awesome time playing this game. even with bugs!
but you get frustrated the longer you play it.

i dont think you will regret buying this game in the state that its in right now.
it keeps getting better
i'm waiting for online multiplayer! omg that will be the shizney!!
Ol 3 nov, 2012 @ 20:09
i would say, maybe not 20 bucks, but when it's on special, it should be a 'buy' on your wishlist

For me, its definitely up there with minecraft and tf2 in my favorite games of all time. I would say, dollar for hour, its definitely been a great investment. Plus there's a lot of really great community mods to keep you from getting bored!
josh.perry13 4 nov, 2012 @ 8:26
I have certainly burned some time up with this game. It's frustratingly hard, but that's one of the things that keeps me coming back for more.
