Feeling ripped off.
Seriously, I rarely even buy games anymore. I try to do research when I do. I read about cortex command, watched a couple videos, it looked like a fun game, and the stuff I watched was the game in alpha/beta mode, so I figured it must have come further. Little did I know the research I did was clearly made by fans.
I am not made of money, shelling out the 18 bucks I payed for it is not a small feet. I am 25, have a fiancee, have rent to pay, and groceries to buy. I thought I was getting a finished product I could download, play, and keep myself occupied with for weeks (or hopefully months) to come.
The first thing I notice when I start it up is the message that the game is not complete! BS! I play the tutorial, felt okay, but clunky. Then onto the campaign, once I got the grips of the game it was a breeze, although factions are highly unbalanced. I "beat" the campaign, the ai was extremely incompetent, ran out of brains, and that was it, the turns kept turning over and no more battles.
So I tried different scenerios. The best thing is endless skirmish defense, but I am fed up with even playing that. You cannot save your base layout, so you have to make a new base every time. Sometimes you start to play the game and your bots cannot pick up their guns, so what do you do then? Start from scratch of course! Then when you lock yourself in and you are doing well, you eventually have to mine gold, which the ai CANNOT do on it's own, so you are sucking your time away mining gold instead of fighting the ai or even watching the battle. Be careful where you make your hole too! The ai might mindlessly fall in and get stuck. One thing the ai is good at is shooting across the screen beyond your view with pinpoint accuracy now and then, which is bs. Once in a blue moon you find yourself starting to enjoy the game, your base is holding up, you keep dropping in bots and stationing them where previous bots died, and BOOM! Your brain dies, for no reason, locked safe away in a bunker, it just dies. Game over, f*** you, telling me I "fail", back to the menu, if you want to play again build another base.
I got a little fun out of this game, but it is fundamentally broken. I got 5 bucks worth out of it at best compared to what I have bought in the past. I gave it a fair chance, dumped hours into it, mostly wasting my time trying to work around glitches and broken gameplay.
If it was 5 bucks it might make a decent little sandbox game for dedicated patient players or modders. But at it's current price stay away from it. BUYERS BEWARE! 11 years in the making and this is it. It was a side project all along, not a dedicated piece of work. Just because it is 11 years of work does not mean it is worth squat. Judging by the posts I have seen the maker post on these forums, I would say it will never be finished. He is being extremely immature, and acting like a victim of hate after he ripped off untold amount of people. My 2 cents on my experience with cortex command.
