A simple idea to improve any fort
You know, there are many ways to protect your fortress or bunker, but sometimes I wish I could do more than make a simple pillbox with a guy armed with a Minigun or M80. So, if Data is listening, I think something you should consider is adding stationary machine guns to the game that your troops could use.

And I don't mean robots, but mannible machine guns like 50 cals and such on a pole or something that you can place on the ground for your troops to use, facing either one way or another that won't move, so you won't have to worry about your defender wandering off or getting blown back by recoil after firing so long (Which tends to happen alot during heated battles), causing them to lose sight of what you want them to keep an eye on.

With these kinds of guns, it'll make it easier to set up a trustworthy defence, knowing that your men will hold the line without getting distracted as easily, since if you put them in a pillbox, they often die more easily because you can't tell them what area you want them to scan, only which way, meaning that if they are unlucky, someone might hit them first while they are looking up in their covered position.

It's just a suggestion, but I think it would add more options to the game and increase the effectiveness of one's base defences.

Sounds good and they could/should have increased damage since they are stationary.

Actually, I got a slightly better idea. Deployable Machineguns. You know some weapons like grapling gun or thumper have special modes? What about a machinegun, like M60, getting a mode that can be turned on/off. When turned on, it disables movement, and allows you to shoot only in direction you were standing on, and it also increases accuracy, or maybe removes the spinup time in case of gatling gun...

What do you think?

That works too!

Oh, when the update comes, I hope Data hears of my suggestion.

Dont turrets already hold down the fort? also I think you can "pin" certain guns to surfaces and fire them from there

Well, only 2 factions have turrets, the rest got pretty much just machineguns.

And even then, one turret is ineffective, and the other is a shorty, meaning it can't see over things as well as others do. Doesn't help that it flops about a bit, meaning it's possible to roll down a hill if it's steep enough.

Although, for some reason, I feel as if the Dummy MG is meant to be stuck to walls and celings.. Certainly looks the part.

You sure? because turrets are my brains best freind anyways the dummy mg is usefull for slowing enemys down and killin and the coalaition (dont know if I spelled that correctly) turret is great for killing and defence because it just mows everyone down.

Yeah, the Army's Turrent is like, totally badass with it's long windup time that gives troops enough time to blow it's gun off with an RPG round, yeah...

In your hands, sure. But in the AI's not so much.

Coalition turret is good at killing light scouts and immobile heavy infantry, and it has several armor layers that will protect, for a while, from smaller rounds, that's nough for it to survive until the wind-up time... unless enemies have a rocket launcher! But, hey, nobody is protected from a rocket launcher!

Better if you have one dummy turret in front of the army turret so that it takes the full RPG round and the turret winds up and kills everyone. Also i would say the AI is pretty good using it, do you put blocks or something else enemy troops would have to crouch to get under? they cant shoot your turrets good and get a good RPG shot then

nothing a modder cant handle......do you know of one
ownomics Feb 21, 2013 @ 10:08am
There are many mods which add automated turrets. Dummy Expansion contains a few, MDC contains 3-5, Air Support has a bunch, Wehrmacht has a flak turret and a siege gun...
