Map Making

Because of my previous encounters with fiddling with the game editors, I am now afraid to make maps. I really want to but don't know how. Im assuming that its just the Map Editor, but when I tried that, it always crashes and breaks my game.

Is there a different way to make a map? If not, how do I make one so it doesnt crash all the time? Do I have to know a bunch of codes and whatnot?

Well firstly you need to create your own mod. Look at those .rte folders in game's main folder. You need to create a new folder ending with .rte, and need an index file similar to index files mods have. Then, you need to take base of already existing .ini file and drawing and edit those... yeah... hard to explain, so you should probably just check out Data realms fan forums and find a tutorial there.
