Should Digital: A Love Story be played before this game?

Just wondering if there is any story/character connections between the two, or if they are 100% separate.

They take place in the same universe, but there is no real connection between the two stories. Technically playing this first spoils a minor twist from Digital which is a good game on its own, so I'd still recommend doing Digital first if you can.
