Nobody online? :(
Lo,

This is a shame, I looked at how many people are playing and sadly it only says that there are ~70 people playing, why is this? I would expect hundreds at least to play a game like this, it's so good!

I don't want this game to die because ethe community gets too low :(

There are two things which hit our regular community of players (200 on a low day!) The new match maker, though I never played with the old one, so am unable to compare.

and
the Steam Sale trolls...
The sheer volume of trolls who came with the steam sales.. everything from purposfully letting the ship die, to racist insults, the steam sale trolls will have pushed a lot of regulars onto another game until things calm down again.

Things will pick up again it's just a matter of the good guys realising the ugly have gone.

When you run into a troll please report them, we go through every report by hand and we love catching the bad apples that ruin the game for other players.

He doesn´t mean you, GrayWolf94. He just means, when someone sees someone trolling or harassing players, they should report him.

The thing is, those 'steam sale trolls' are the same people they rely on to keep buying their game during sales.

Sometimes this game dips down below 100 players but the peak times have plenty from what I've seen. More is better of course but this game isn't dying, it's just going back to normal.

I love this game and there are two things. Firstly it is a hard sell for friends so when I want to coop they drag me to other games, the second thing is that with adventure mode coming alot of us are just waiting for that.

this game is very far from dying, it's up to the players to keep it alive! and burning with passion! with content and discussions filling up forums and posting screenshots/good times/achievements!

While GoIOs playerbase isn't exactly large (it's a niche game after all) it has got a very dedicated foundation which won't turn their back on the game.
Outside of steam-sales we've usually got 200-500 players in the evening (for EU and US). If you want to play while Europe works and the US sleeps, you will still be able to do so, as there are always a couple of lobbies running at any time of the day, but you won't be able to be picky.

Unfortunately it does seem the population is slipping a bit. I was gone about 6 months prior to the matchmaking patch but the pop. is the lowest I've personelly seen it ever right now. For the first year and a half 300 was the average and 800 to 1200 after sales and Polaris youtuber videos.

Gotta agree with Kamoba about some of the reasons why. The MM system seems to have put a lot of long time players off and having encountered one of these trolls last night I can see why. Being forced into lobbies with them really just mkaes you want to put the game down and play something else. Guy named President Jackson was my gunner and the whole game he just sat in the Flare gun on the back of my Pyra and called my ship garbage build refusing to man the forward guns or even repair. It was a throw away game and complete waste of everyone's time

I never have an issue finding a match :3 EVER. I only couldn't find a novice match for the FIRST time last night around 4 AM and I got straight into an advanced match :) I was happy. I am novice and have no finding matches so I can't even begin to imagine the badass time Advanced Players are having with the more maps and such :3

It's not so much an issue of finding a lobby but finding a lobby you want to play in. Lot of people don't fancy crewing a ship of a lv 1 captain, more so when the opposing team captains are lv 20+. It most likely will be a slaughter with no opportunity to even teach the new guy anything.
