The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

Anybody playing with WINE?
Any performance-enhancing advice is appreciated. I'm playing with WINE 1.5.13 using Ubuntu 12.04 in Fluxbox.

All of the Mac versions are using Wine. I was using 1.5.0 or 1.5.8. I forget. I've recently upgraded to 1.5.13 to see if it would tackle this Mac issue everyone is having. The game opens, but cashes on the first load screen. APART FROM THAT. I noticed that there was a bit of a performance jump. Seemed to have a better frame rate, so possibly give that a shot?
For me, I got it to load just fine with a new wineskin, but the performance was really bad. I guess I did something wrong. In the end I switched over to bootcamp to play this. Until they provide us with a decent update.
does the bootcamp option gives you beter frame rate?
I play in a late 2011 Macbook Pro 13'' with 2,4 ghz i5 , 8 gb di ram and hd3000 over wineskin and i play with non-fantastic framerate of 20-25 fps outside at medium detail.

Does switching to bootcamp helps the framerate?
I am playing in the mac as well and the game crashes really often. I cannot play the game because it crashes before i can even save it.
The fix mentioned below changed the game's performance from barely playable on low settings to almost descent on medium/high settings.

At least for me. I'm running a Mac Mini 2.3 i5, 8GB, HD3000.

Note: I don't actually have the game, Steam or not, so I'm just working on what I've done with Wineskin (got the original Deus Ex from Steam to work nicely, I hope. Then when they finish getting the Steam Overlay working with X11, it'll be like making my own Steam Windows ports. Haha.).

I was gonna suggest the Wine AppDB page, but all the registry tweaks appear to already be the default in Wine (and the entry's kinda old both for Wine and perhaps the Witcher). The VideoMemorySize key might be of use though (the value is autodetected, but the Wine wiki page made it sound like it wasn't a 100% science). Go to *witcher*.app/Contents/Resources and edit user.reg with TextEdit to include:

Of course, replacing VideoMemorySize with the amount of VRAM you have. Hope that helps. Easily reverseable if it doesn't

Maybe try the Wineskin trick from the other thread, but install WS8Wine1.4 (which is the latest stable version, while 1.5 is the very newest unstable branch, as evidenced by the .2 at the end indicating the immaturity of the unstable branch). Or try WS8WineCXG10.3, which sometimes works where the original Wine doesn't (kinda last resort though. Doesn't always help and sometimes makes things worse).
I play this on the Mac and it works fine for half an hour or so, then it crashes. Restarting usually solves the problem, but it's getting really annoying. Seriously, if you want to bring a game to the mac, make sure it works properly.
See the "Witcher Mac OSX Will Not Launch" thread, in which I tried "the Wineskin trick from the other thread". My wrapper is Wineskin 2.5.8, while the Engine is WS9Wine 1.5.0 (I earlier tried 1.5.19 but that made the game unplayable".

Performance is pretty good now. I still will crash for no reason every 3-4 hours, but the frame rate etc. all runs nicely. Save frequently, and don't keep too many old saved games would be what I recommend.

Good luck.
