I'm confused by this combat system.

I'm playing The Witcher and I've yet to kill anyone. I keep clicking my mouse on the enemies but he hardly seems to move his sward. Even on the few occasions he does, he doesn't seem to hit anyone.

I'm not sure if it's me or game glitches?

It's running at over 100fps but at times the cutscenes seem choppy.

Anyway, I'm running on Windows 8 so maybe that is my problem?

Anyone else having this many problems with the combat system?

You're not supposed to keep clicking. Click once, keep your cursor over the enemy, then click again when the cursor becomes a sword with fire or w/e lol. Also, make sure you change the fighting style according to the enemy. It should be explained in the beggining tutorial :x

I did do that. I'm going to try again because maybe it's my timing.

What WarProphet said. You end up getting three different fighting styles for different types of enemies. Strong/Fast/Group style. If an enemy seems to be dodging while you're using strong, switch to fast and you'll most likely be able to hit him.

Make sure to read the tutorial, because when I first started I was confused as well but once you learn it it's not difficult at all.

Ok, so I get home to play this game and give it a second chance and it continues to lock up on me. The beginning intro plays and when it gets to main menu, I can't move up or down to choose an option. It just locks up on "Load" main menu option.

I really want to like this game but I'm beginning to think this game doesn't like me!!!:)

Michael, could you see your mouse on the screen? If you use the shift+tab for Steam before the main menu appears, the mouse will lock itself (I think you can still move it if you keep pressing 'shift'). If this is the problem, once you load the game everything should be fine again.
Good luck, I hope you can finally enjoy this awesome game; the first hour can be confusing and boring, but once you start unlocking combat moves and go deeper on the story it becomes really addictive.

Oook. Your right, shift+tab is what is locked up the game. I seems I can't press shift+tab until after I start the game because doing shift+tab at the main menu also locks the game up too.

They really should patch this game to fix it.

Being more patient with the fighting does seem to work.

Also turning on adaptive vsync seem to work. Virtu MVP didn't seem to work with this game because cutsense were very jerky.
