So I bought both games...

I bought both games but as far as I can tell from the first few minutes of playing TW1...it's bad. Or atleast IMO, I will not enjoy it lol. Is there ANY reason to play this through? Will it get better in any way shape or form? Or should I find a review of the game to get all the back story and just skip to the second game.

I'm willing to give it a chance if yall swear it'll get better than the first dozen minutes of intro gameplay.

the first few hours of the game were incredibly painful for me. i hated the combat system and couldn't figure it out at all, i thought the voice acting was lame, as was the story, not to mention the rather flimsy graphics.. to top it all off, the game crashed on me after about 20 minutes of gameplay. it seemed like a nightmare, but i had read enough about how important it was to stick with it and i forced myself to keep on playing. after an hour, i got the hang of the combat and then after about another hour, when i finally got the chance to walk around the outskirts, i noticed that i started to enjoy the level and sound design, plus i really dug the attention to detail regarding the UI and the general polish that went into the backgrounds and story.

after about 4 hours, it suddenly hit me how enjoyable the whole thing was becoming and that was also when i went on a mission where i got incredibly drunk with a merchant who convinced me to hack up some deadly garden plants in the middle of the night and it put me in stitches while i was drunkenly (screen was blurry, controls were muddled, your animations are woozy and hilarious looking) slashing at a giant plant that was biting at me. it was ridiculous...and brilliant.

i hadn't even played the incredibly addictive dice rolling mini game or had any of the over the top fistfighting battles when i quickly realized how complex the leveling up system was and how interwoven the game world was with its own incredibly unique set of mechanics. the alchemical stuff was just even more icing on the cake.

...so basically, the game practically burst into life for me after trudging along at a snail's pace at the very beginning. i've played close to 13 hours now in the past day and i can not stop thinking about it when i'm not playing it. i hate the fact that i have to go back to work tomorrow because i would be sinking all my time into this nonstop otherwise.

I get Frustrated a bit with any new RPG and its mechanics.
Witcher has a great atmosphere and storylines.
I used to hate RPGs and intolerant.

I think theres an easy mode I think thats how I played W1,pretty much only used a few health potions ect , but its a great world to play in.Graphics are up there with DAO or close, Its been awhile since I played witcher #1 though.

Once you get the combat mechanics down, get into the game (like the person above wrote) you get caught up in the story and its a pretty enjoyable game.

Try playing on EASY if your just interested in moving forward to witcher 2, at least you wont miss out on a good game that actually got alot of praise.

That would be very similar to my own impressions of this game and i reckon most of the people who end up loving it do.
Im over 40 hrs into it now, i reckon im nearly finished it, and its one of the most immersive and deep games ive played in a good while. It feels like a HBO type of game, slow and somewhat overwhelming, no hand-holding but rather it throws you right in the deep end, but stick with it and it will give you a satisfying experience that epitomizes the reason you play games.

I cant wait to finish for two reasons, one is because i want to see how it all ends. This a game where the story and characters really matter and play a big role in the enjoyment of the game, and two is because i cant wait to play the 2nd game and carry on the story.

Sequel will most likely meet your taste requirements more; as its arguably the best RPG since Baldurs Gate 2 (Perhaps Dragon Age Origins should be conversed but Witcher 2 is just of such higher quality over-all) First witcher I got a month after it was released and loved it as an off title RPG at the time (Like Risen was more recently except was awful) - so I loved TW1; but after TW2 and using the RedEngine on Ultra with Ubersampling/Nvidia 3D Vision (its 3D Ready) its so fluid and far more appealing / interesting than The first game in the series in my opinion.

This is still a classic though.

I got them both in the Winter/New Years sale figured I'd play Witcher 1 first then go to Witcher 2. When I first started Witcher I felt the same way thinking "This is Witcher?? This is what everyone was talking about??" The begining was pretty boring and the combat felt a little wierd, even Chapter 1 was kind of boring to me running around a giant area during the day with no enemies can be boring but now I'm in Chapter 2 and loving it!! It the game really picks up in Chapter 2, game changing decisions, a lot of different enemies, good story and a lot of different important characters to deal with. Honestly, I'm having a lot of fun with it right now.

This game is great, but keep in mind it came out coming up on 6 years ago. It was about an 8 or 9 out of 10 when it came out then. Try to suspend your knowledge of newer game mechanics and graphics and you'll have a good time.

I spent close to 99 HOURS (no kidding) on Witcher 1 on hard mode, and now I am considering playing it again to see what different decisions do to the game. The first run through, I maxed out my spell creation skills so it was a "fire at this, nuke that" kind of game.

I'm a bit embarrased that it took 99 hours, but I really enjoyed the journey. Now I hear that we can import our Witcher 1 saved game into Witcher 2. Cool!
