Amazing rpg, but be prepared for a long game.
Witcher 2 is alot better in comparison, but this is definetly still worth playing if you're a hardcore rpg fan.

99 Hours played on Witcher 1. I agree. LONG GAME.

not a bad thing

Yeah it's definitely a long game. I'm at 39 hours and on chapter 4. I'm tackling as many side quests as I can do as well. Nothing wrong with a long game though!

so I'm on the fence about buying this, as I want to see what all the hype is about. I know there's a sequel out but I'm that guy who can't play a sequel without playing the first, and at 10 bucks you can't beat that.

so, no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, is this fun or what? asking as an RPG fan who also likes story and combat. all frank answers appreciated!

I'm the same way. I heard Witcher 2 was a really good game. So during the autumn sale, I got the Witcher for $3. Played it a bit, and i was iffy about the game. But I'm getting deeper into the story and i am really starting to get into it. Still a bit confused on how to properly do things in game, But i know once i get those things down, I'll enjoy the game a lot more.

If I may be so bold, this game is even better than the sequel.
Don't get me wrong, the Witcher 2 is a fantastic game that I can't recommend enough. But the first part of the series is better as far as story and atmosphere are concerened. The characters are equally fun and alive in both games and I won't go into detail on the combat systems in the games (that's just a matter of opinion, both are quite challenging on hard settings and I like them both quite a lot).
However your decisions have a lot more impact in the first game and you get quite a lot more of them. Do you slay monsters or try and find a cure for their curse? Do you join one of the factions or try and stay neutral on the witchers path?

I'm currently on the last chapter of the game, and I recommend it. I haven't touched Witcher 2 yet so I can't compare the two, but the first game has an interesting story and cool characters.

As far as the combat is concerned, it's different which I like, but has a small learning curve compared to other similar titles. I will say that the game has a ton of content in terms of side missions and random things like fighting for money and playing dice poker.

ok I'm 15 hours in by Steam's reckoning, working on finishing up the first chapter in Vizima. I must say I am pleased overall. Combat system did not take me long to grasp. I started at highest difficulty, and I am glad that it makes it tough enough to challenge you and you can still die if you don't pay attention, but not absurdly impossible to an asinine degree, in other words, like all those games where Easy is for an infant, Medium is still too easy, but yet somehow Hard jumps ahead to impossible. I hate that crap and I am glad it is not happening here.

So far, I have to say I prefer Abigail ;)

so I got really into this game but then I was sent on a fetch quest for what I remember to be over 10 items needless to say that made me rage quit I wouldnt mind this as I can return to the story any time I want to but I probably never will since I forgot the plot after all this time I know there was a quarentine in the city and then I found a way in the city but if I really try to remember I cant even recall what I was trying to get in the city for! lol

30hrs.... just finished Act 1. Just remember to hit F5 before every conversation and after every successful event. (I had to start a new game due to my failure to keep older saves.)

Just letting people know that you can play Witcher 2 as a starting point if you wanted; I played witcher 1 about a week after it came out in the USA via Direct 2 Drive at the time; due to all the award hype and adored it but went onto the other things after my initial play - it stayed in my mind as an AMAZING RPG by this new company etc, then I saw the first Witcher 2 Trailer and my jaw dropped - It's now my favorite all time RPG series.

That original trailer was...

Pre-ordered it after watching this one and the "Hope trailer below"

The game is excellent, don't get me wrong. But it's a little tiresome after a while. It's long and the gameplay feels dated.
