Thinking about trying again...
Purchased the Enhanced Edition on a whim a while back on some random sale for $2.50. I started the game and got halfway thru it before quitting. I don't remember the exact reason I quit but I think it was because some new shiny game came out and I jumped ship for greener pastures. That said I'm working on my backlog of games right now and want to give this another go.

I remember there being different combat styles. Some focusing on the sword and others focusing on magic. Which combat style is easier to complete the game with or more fun? Does it matter? Will I eventually get all the combat styles or are there builds like in some other RPG games?

The combat styles aren't really builds, it's more rock-paper-scissors.

Strong is to be used against a specific type of enemies (slow and tough) and fast is to be used against nimble enemies. Group is only for when you're fighting groups of enemies (3+)

Steel swords and styles are for humans while Silver swords and styles are for monsters.

As far as builds go, it's more about focusing on either swords play or magic. Alchemy is in-between and complements both.

My first play focused on MAGIC. Maxed out most of the spells, but my fighting skills were pathetic. That being said, with magic skills maxed out, it was quite easy to beat the game. Whenever I lost enough vitality, I just cast a yellow globe around me and it restored itself. Using this same spell made it VERY EASY to kill really big bad guys (especially at the end of the game).
