Helldog boss is insane!
How do I kill the demon dog? Can someone please tell me? It inflicts some orange status on me and then it and the rest of the ♥♥♥♥ing dogs tear me apart in like a second while Geralt does some ♥♥♥♥ty poses? And why the ♥♥♥♥ do my potion's buffs dissappear at the start of the fight? I used them right before leaving the cave to face the mob! WTF?!?!?!"?!?!?!

I think I stunned him with Aard and then when I attacked, an instant kill was triggered :P

Run in a circle and use hit and run tactics. "Orange status" means you're on fire and that will be more likely to happen if you try and hit it more than once or twice at a time. Try and glug down a swallow potion at the start of the fight and maintain it as soon as it runs out. Getting lucky with Aard is extremely unlikely so I'd avoid that unless you feel you just plain can't get by on anything other than dumb luck. This fight is god tier, once you make it past this the rest of the game will feel easy.

I beat him after 16 tries on hard, really tough. What I used: Spectre Oil, Swallow Potion and, the one that make the difference, Blizzard. Also, protect the Witch from the hellhounds using group steel in the very beginning, because she will heal you at least one time, and believe me, it does make the difference. If you didn't chose to save the Witch then I don't know.

I am also kinda stuck on this part. My problem is not the boss himself, but keeping the damn witch alive on hard. She is squishy as hell. I can get down the first group of hounds quick enough and bait the big dog away from her, but eventually more dogs spawn and they go straight after her... and kill her terribly quickly. I never invested on Aard so it is really, really not effective at this point.

Any ideas on how to keep her alive? I didnt save her just to have her die seconds later dammit.

She doesn't perma-die. Beat the boss and she revives.

Doh. I feel quite silly now for not checking. Thank you very much!

In fact, normal ghost dogs are easy at this point and you won't have much trouble protecting the witch from them, with help of spectre oil. I recommend using pause button, It's there for a reason. Press spacebar, plan your movement/item usage, then act. And the boss.. Well, I don't remember how I killed him, but I remember it was not that hard after I made sure that witch is not down. Some potions, dodges and strong steel attacks probably. BTW I almost always play in OTS camera mode since I got used to it while playing Demon Souls.

I do use it, I am no stranger to this kind of game. Like I said, the problem was when more of them spawned after the initial batch, since she seems really brittle on hard.

At any rate, after finding out she doesnt need to be alive, I can just let her get knocked down the whole fight.

Try and keep between the witch and the barghests, she will heal you some times, which is very useful. Kill all barghests with group stell combos and Aast the beast when it comes close. That should probably keep it from stunning, or inflicting pain upon you. Then destroy it >:D

Okay, dog dealt with (in a not very manly way). But now a new problem arises.

After killing the dog, I thought I would finally get back the stuff I left with the innkeeper (same one that got killed), but it turns out I didnt. Did I just lose all that?

To top it off, they get all my stuff in the jail and I am, once again, "stuffless"... Oh joy. At least these I can get back, right...?

You will have ALL your stuff back. Innkeepers store your stuff in a hyperdimensional pocket, just ask the next one.

Yeah that boss was really tricky but i remember i used an alcohol for pain immunity.

Did you do all of the side qeust, if you did not you will be to weak for later monsters. That is the one thing about this game I don't like, you have to do everthing if you want to stand a chance. I hope this works good luck.
Asmosis Apr 22, 2013 @ 1:37am
its a rough fight that one because it cuts you off from the Inn quite a bit earlier on, so if you were stocking stuff there due to inventory running out of space every 10 mins your kinda screwed. after 3 attempts i realised i had a potion base in my inventory so was lucky enough to be able to brew something.

Also protecting the witch is a priority since she casts healing on you, although not essential as mentioned
