Hellhound
Seems impossible to kill! Too many adds, too many stuns, fire around the edges and rubbish healing from the witch. All adds up to make this boss impossible. Tried the Aard thing, never stuns him, just knocks him down, Tried potions and dont work. I must of reloaded about 50 times and just cannot do it.

Is this a reflection of how the game gets? As if so its pointless to proceed as this hell dog seems impossible to beat, and if he is the first real boss then what does that say for the rest of them?

Its a shame as its a great game, but i have always said to myself when a game starts to wind you up (which is very rare for me) its time to stop playing and delete. This boss just winds me up, i dont even seem to be coming close to dropping him, in fact i have never known anything quite like it in a game to be so impossible.

Even if i did drop him just how the hell do you keep the witch alive as well? heaven knows. I have tried all stances, i just cannot understand what i am doing wrong........grrrr!!!

The Beast is the arguably the hardest part of the game.

Two strategies exist to beat him:

1. AOE them all down with Group Style, you cannot miss a single attack. The Beast is really quite frail once you escape being stun-locked.

2. Chug a swallow and camp in the corner over by the little well house, not every bargest can reach you which allows you to recover.

And an addendum is, don't worry about keeping Abigail alive, it doesn't really matter as she'll 'recover' once the battle is over.

You sir are a legend and i thank you very much!

Went to that corner near the well thing.....backed right into it and they couldnt all get me at once....let a few group swipes go....then a couple of Aards and then i have no idea why but the beast was dead! Dead as a doornob! I dont think i had even hit him more than twice? I dont know if it was a bug......if i one shotted him after the Aard sign and it just didnt show it....or in some way the god of gaming took pity on me and killed the blasted mutt for me! But the yellow quest titles come up and i thought wow is he dead.....he cant be....after all this time!

Then 4 villagers started hitting on me before i could even register what the heck was going on and i was close to dying....couldnt work out what the hell was going on at first i was so shocked the mutt was dead. Thought please no dont let me die now and have to start the boss fight all over :( Thankfully dropped a swallow potion.....recovered my wits and killed the 4 villagers.

The witch woke up as you said she would....and i geo the heck out of there onto chapter two thankfully.

I can now enjoy the game again, that boss was crazy but if they arent as hard as that after i am not to worried now. Never known anything quite like that and i have been gaming since the ZX81/Vic 20 came out.

Thanks very much mate, your tips for whatever reason seemed to work, the well thing seems to be the way to go for anyone else stuck. Although i am not convinced it was a glitch as one second he was alive then dead....with me mostly cowering in the corner thinking about my next move.

I wont complain though, for the first time ever in a game i actually thought about deleting a great game and never playing it again it was that frustrating.....

Good work, the beast is actually really fragile, it's just getting stunlocked by the 15 bargests that makes it hard.

Just remember keep moving as much as you can. It will help prevent his stun. It took me a few tries but I got through it with enough health to fight the mob afterward plus the witch was a live. Keep on trying!

Also, Abigail does revive in fight after a certain period of time passes. If you don't mind being cheap, you can attack the boss and then run around once you take some damage until either your rejuvination potion brings you to full health or Abigail revives and heals you, then rinse and repeat.

Those damn peasants nearly killed me too afterwards. I wasn't expecting having to fight so soon after making it through the epic battle with the demon dog haha. This game can be quite brutal.

The way I beat it was by drinking swallow and running around in a circle while my health replenished. Since Geralt is so fast the dogs can't keep up with him. I didn't know about the hiding spot though.

You need a stun skill, cant remember the name, you stun it and finish it off. Easy as pie. First time I played this game I was getting my butt kicked by that one as well - 2nd run, stunned & finished it off in 3 swings lol.

Of course, it all comes down to this; Will your stun trigger or will it not? 50/50.

I had a little trouble with this as well, playing on normal. Though I did manage to kill it on the first try, barely; had about 15% health left. I highly recommend using the group style and the first sign that you got, it helps quite a bit.

Pick the 'Immunity To Pain when intoxicated" perk and do the fight drunk. And upgrade Aard. Made the fight a cakewalk.

I guess that Combat Rebalance mod really changes this fight. I oiled up my sword with Sprectre, and swallowed before leaving the cave. The beast went down in four or five hits. Also took a stun. Mind you... the first time i fought it, i got paralyzed by them, and then killed me before i could do anything (cheapest power i've seen in the game...).

Im not bragging but i never played this before, im playin in hard difficulty, and this hell hound was pretty easy to beat. i don't see the problem with this "Boss". Just tellin'. Happy Gaming everyone. This game is kindda boring at the beginning, but as soon you pass through the first village stuff this games gets better. GG!

I just knocked it down to kill with just one hit. Try running around while your endurance charges up and keep using your sign until you got a knock down or a stun.

There are a few potions you could brew up and a coating you could use to make this fight easier. I beat that thing on hard without the coating.

If i recall correctly, there's a potion that gives you immunite to stuns etc. coat your blade in spectre oil (as that thing's a ghost/spectre) and use groupstyle with the big one as your main target. try to keep the witch alive as she will heal in intervals and if you need time just run around.

oh and don't forget. the fight is at MIDNIGHT so if you are in that cave at around 6 pm and leave the cave after drinking some pots/coating your blade, it might wear off as 6 hours will pass on.

Swollow potion grp style attack and a rune on the sword as said above works a charm :)
