Stuck in an invisible box?

So, i'm playing thru the game as alester the part where u have to find a way into the manse find stuff, fight, get out. so, i did that stuff i leave the manse and im stuck in some type of invisible box in the gerenal area from which i could enter the manse( this is not the fenced off area surrounding the entrance). The are is basically the rectagular space just before the manse entrance excluding the narrower streets the jut out. im stuck and can no longer play thru the game because of this. why/how could this happen?
