I want it but...
So I've been considering this game for a while now but all the negative reviews have kept me from buying it, is it really as bad as everyone is making out? :/

If Dragon Age is your kind of game, then you will like this game. If you don't know Dragon Age... get that game first. :P

The gameplay is mediocre (but by no means bad), but the story is really great. So if you like story rich games and especially, if you like Game of Thrones universe, then I think you won't be disapointed by this game.

Just finished it and although I was rather disappointed by the end I am quite pleased with the game as a whole. Guess most of the negative reviews criticise the technical side of the game.

There's no complaining about the storytelling or the plot of GoT, just don't expect too much of the gameplay. The fights are sometimes badly arranged and can get confusing ('cause you can't zoom out at all). Also you can't change the key config or expect top notch graphics.
What you can expect are very good voice actors (with sidekick appearances from some TV series actors), a way above average story and a gripping athmosphere.
If you like 'A Song of Ice and Fire' you'll be able to enjoy the game - if not you could find it hard to enjoy it, as it biggest strong point is the Westeros feeling and the plot that fits very well into the GoT cosmos.

I noticed you only have 2 hours game time is the story really that short? or does it have side quests?
FnordScored23 Jun 29, 2014 @ 7:48am
LOL, yeah - I anticipated that question. :) Last week I have been on vacation, downloaded the game before departing and played it offline while being away. The 2 hours that got listed by Steam are just the ending that I finished after returning home. ;)
All in all I guess that I've played about 45-50 hours, I completed all side quests - if you skip the side quests you may finish the game in about 30 hours or so.

... also, there are alternative endings. I only played 1 of them - so that'd be 2 or 3 additional hours of gaming time ;)

This game is just great! I bought this game also during the summersale and I just finished it, I'll recommend it to everyone who is into RPG's like me ;p

Like others have said it's the story that really shines through. If you are a fan of GoT it will overshadow the mediocre gameplay.

I am rather enjoying it, though I tend to enjoy a lot of games that get "bad" reviews. It just depends on how easily you can enjoy yourself I guess.
I'm enjoying it quite a lot, it reminds me of The Witcher, except mechanically it's not as good. Graphics are quite bad but not enough to ♥♥♥♥ you off.

Buy it.

I'd buy it when it goes on sale, I got it during humble bundle and that's fine.
It's a game you play (with serious balancing issues at times) and then move on to something better.
I liked Mors way more than red-priest-I-always-forget-to-spell-right but he makes up way more of the game so that was a bit annoying.

I completed the game two times and repicked characters multiple times at the start/end of chapter 2 and have 38 hours clocked, so you probably will only reach that 50 hours if you speed up no conversation (and for me those people talk way to slow, so I just read the subtitles) do every single side quest and progress quite slowly (read: inefficiently).
And you should just play on the lowest difficulty. Lord is extremely unforgivable on certain builds, so combat won't be much fun, but a chore. And always changing difficulty is also unreasonable.

so all in all:
get this when it's a bit cheaper, ignore the combat, enjoy the side quests and conversations without getting too bored

This is kinda of like a crappy version of dragon age though, it's more like dragon age 2 with slower combat.
