I'm hoping newcomers from the ongoing Steam sale will notice this.
An old .exe that was mentioned in a lot of the guides and forums did introduce quite a few bugs, yes, but this is not that same .exe file.
A new .exe found on a few recently-made forums is of the same version as the Steam version.
I've tested it myself and it worked -- several friends of mine report that it works too (most of them have done 2 + playthroughs with the .exe).
Thanks for the info. I was feeling a tad claustrophobic.
No worries. It's definetly not that oudated .exe and it works very nicely!
1. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Knights of the Old Republic II
2. Locate file "swkotor2.ini".
3. Change "DisableVertexBufferObjects=0" under [Graphics Options] to "DisableVertexBufferObjects=1".
4. Save the file.
If that still doesn't work:
* 1. Open "swkotor2.ini" in the KOTOR II directory and under both [Graphics Options] AND [Display Options], change "Fullscreen=1" to "Fullscreen=0".
2. Also add the following line under just [Graphics Options]:AllowWindowedMode=1
3. Save the file.
Last solution would be to try running swkotor2.exe (game's shortcut) as admin. and in compatability mode Windows XP Service Pack 2.
I haven't got the game installed.
If it doesn't work your GPU is probably not good.
Firstly, crashing after character creation may require you disabling buffer effects AND soft shadows:
> Frame Buffer Effects Fix
1. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Knights of the Old Republic
2. Locate file "swkotor.ini".
3. Change "DisableVertexBufferObjects=0" under [Graphics Options] to "DisableVertexBufferObjects=1".
4. Save the file.
NOTE: You may also need to turn off "Soft shadows" as well (using the "swconfig.exe" file).
Secondly, if your game crashes all the time or crashes during a load screen, download this version of DirectX 9 (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=8109)
Both of these have been added to the troubleshooting guide. Thanks.
No worries! You're very welcome.
Once more, thank you so much Lucky!
No worries! People should see the guide if they're having trouble with widescreen, as there's not too many around for this game, and as I've mentioned everywhere I've discussed it: it's the latest version.
Short of advertising... I've done everything I can to get people to know that widescreen without downgrading (and getting lots of bugs) is possible ;)
