Tryst
Initial impressions?
Anyone have some? I haven't seen any particularly informative previews/reviews.

Neither have I, unfortunately I wont spend $20 to find out. Looks like it's sitting at #32 on top sellers list above CS:S. So I would say it's not selling that well.

Edit: Apparently it's the people who made Apox, not a necessarily horrible game, but very unpolished, with poor sounds, and lack of depth and features. I bought that on release, will definitely pass on this.

Wondering if this has the "always on drm singleplayer..."

Im interested as well but without some feedback I will hold back awhile longer. Maybe Total Biscuit will chime in today on it.

Last sci-fi game that burned me was a game called Fray!
Well all i can say is that this game is worth the money. It just needs the community to back it. It

Just bought and played a few games, not a very polished game - the art assets leave a lot to be desired, 3 levels of tech in the game - only 2 races - only 3-4 units of each type (infantry/vehicle/air) - each tech level increase really only unlocks 1-2 more units and your next ARM level.

  • The resource acquisition element is limited and doesn't add anything to the game short of limiting how fast people can proceed
  • The limited race selection, while not necessarily bad, just makes the game feel cheap/small/rushed.
  • The art assets as stated, aren't that good quality - and yet somehow bring a GTX 670 to it's knees on high quality settings.
  • The limited selection of units
  • The game in general feels unnecessarily slow and progression limited, disallowing skilled players to actually have an advantage over their slower opponents.
  • Just general lack of polish all round - from not being able to select multiple structures (for say, grouping and mass production) to the dumb AI to the lack of notifications of what's actually happening in game (can go minutes without realizing your ally is about to be destroyed) - among many others, really removes any desire to play this game...

The only interesting part of the game is the ARM system, which lets you select 1 of 2-3 possible upgrades/customization for each unit for each tech level (for a combined total of 3 customisations at end game) - which lets you build a somewhat unique military force, and allows you to counter counters to your units, and thus provides a potentially (though the AI don't) ever changing battlefield strategy.

Overall, certainly not worth the price, and not worth wasting your time on - which is sad, as given some polish - this probably could have competed with the likes of starcraft or DoW - it's technically close, just lacking the artistic and gameplay polish to push it to the next level, and the technical optimizations to let it run on reasonably specced machines.

I'm going to have to agree with Mitch.

The game is a pretty poor rip off of Warhammer 40k + Star Craft 2.

The UI is pretty much a straight rip of SC2.

Zali are basically the Necrons, they even use the simlar recycle / resurrection mechanic. Even the art is basically a clone.

This is one of those instances where I wish Steam would offer refunds.

Hey guys,

I want to thank you guys for your opinions. Seriously, over the last few weeks leading upto our launch you guys have pointed out things that we may have overlooked or not really seen in the same light. That sort of thing is invaluable to us!

On that note, I want to assure you all that we're going to be continuously working on improving Tryst over the next few months. We'd really love it if you could keep letting us know what you'd like to see and what you don't. Most of our Devs are a little more active on our website forums here - http://store.steampowered.com

We hope to see you there.

Also, a few of us will be hanging out here, as well.

Cheers!

The same thing was said about Apox, the only thing that was really added was paid DLC and a few bug fixes. Can't really polish a turd though.

Hopefully there is better support for the people willing to buy this game this time around.
“It could take the place of where Blizzard’s Starcraft is at the moment…”
this thing written in top of reviews.well what i will say is gl to them and a bit smile on my face.
maybe At The Momemnt(personal opinion no) for some ppl when starcraft new game comes 2013 i think will someone remember that game's name???
Hi All

We have learned this hard way. We are hoping not to make the same mistakes.

We have even asked Steam to do much, much higher discount for APOX customers; but they adviced the percentage cannot be more than Pre-order.

Right now, we are still in Launch-party hangover. But we are looking at the feedback coming our way so far.

Once again, we would like to "Thank You" all for the support.

Cheers,
BlueGiant Interactive Team
