I'm confused about the order of the Avernum Series
As far as Avernum goes, the steam listings have Avernum: Escape from the Pit. and Avernum 4-6. What happened to 2 and 3?

I know Escape from the Pit is a remake of the first Avernum, and that Avadon, Nethergate, and Geneforge are completely separate series, but what about 2 and 3?

One last question, about the story itself this time. I heard that the Avernum games are not direct sequels, but different stories set in the same world. Is this true.

Thanks in advanced to any/all that reply!

I'd like to add on to this question: Are ALL of the games worth playing? And in order? I'm looking at the Spiderweb Software Collection, and that's a ton of games. I've heard that these can take a LONG time to play. Is it worth my time to go through them all (in order) for a complete end-to-end story for each series, or are there a few games to focus on that have the best play experience, but still understand what's going on.

I've heard about the quality of the games, but not the order. Gameplay wise, they're all pretty much the same, but all the fans I've spoken to have enjoyed all the games stories immensely. Except for Avadon: The Black Fortress, where people say it's story is lackluster compared to the rest.

I played Avadon before Pit, and I enjoyed it's story. There aren't to many stories that can keep me interested from the beginning, since usually it takes until about halfway through a game before the story get's me interested.

The GUI for the Geneforge Series, and Avernum 4(I'm assuming 2 and 3 as well), looks like it hasn't aged well though. And Geneforges graphics in particular haven't aged well either.

If graphics don't bother you, and story is important above all else, then based on what I've heard, it's worth playing them all.

As for the order, I'm not sure.

It confused me too. Read this thread from the official forums for an explanation of the order.

Thanks! I understand now! Mar 24, 2013 @ 12:39am
The GUI's for 1-3 are rough. Mouse clicks don't move the pary to the spot where you clicked, but instead moves the party one space twards the curser. And then, of course, you have the character portrates, map, and text console taking up 2/3's of the screen. But the story and gameplay are still there. You can get the entire sieries (1-6) on GOG for 12 bucks which is an awesome deal. But I also hear he's going to be remaking 2 and 3 the same way he did EftP so it's up to you.
