Doom 3 BFG edition brings hell straight to your home computer. After almost 18 hours playing through Doom 1, 2, and 3, this is my final verdict following all three games.
Doom (the original game)
- Doom was a great classic, I recommend it to any traditional PC gamer looking for some old school entertainment.
- The second game in the Doom series has a lot of similarities with the original Doom installment. Only I found the game much harder than the original. Even on a normal difficulty enemies are much more difficult to take down and heath is much harder to find.
- Dooms third installment was something else compared to the other two games. Id software did a good job of innovating while staying true to the original Doom feeling. Id managed to step out and innovate their game by changing the traditional level design to a more realistic take on the Mars research base. Though the level design not only made me feel more immersed in the game, it also had a couple of down sides. When given an objective the player would need to move through a series of rooms until he / she reached that objective. But doing so would get repetitive as the level design follows the same four steps : enter room -> enemies spawn -> player kills enemies -> player enters next room. Along side this most of the enemies become very simple to kill as two shots from a shotgun will likely take most enemies out. I'm happy to see that a classic game company like Id software had the nutz to change up their game from a run and gun, to more of a moderate paced shooter, with some creepy horror aspects mixed in. Oh and this game had a bad ♥♥♥ ending if anyone was already wondering.
After many late summer nights and alot of game saves i'm happy to say that Doom 3 BFG edition wasn't half bad. Doom 3 has had a graphical overhaul since the release of BFG edtion and a small number of in game tweaks, such as the ablity to use a flash light with your gun, and a couple of enemy model changes. I cant say Doom 3 was close to as good as some games ive played, but I think along with the graphics upgrade and Doom 1, and 2 being included, I think BFG edition is well worth the money paid.
If you made it this far thanks for reading folks
