DOOM 3: BFG Edition

DOOM 3: BFG Edition

Statistiche:
Why do you think they haven't ever ported Doom 64 into a collection like this?
Seriously, I loved Doom 64 - it felt like the last true Doom game to me, and it is near-unplayable now on the Nintendo 64. I would love to be able to play it on the computer with better controls and an achievement system, but it seems like D64 is forever going to be the forgotten member of the Doom family.

I miss games like Doom 1, 2, and 64 where the levels were wonderfully designed, there was little story, and the object was to pop in, find keys and switches, and move on. This style of FPS has virtually become extinct, but it seems like there is still a market for these types of games. Isn't that why we continue to return to Doom after all these years?

I wish some developer - not even just ID - would make modern/updated versions of the awesome "unleash hell" level-based shooters again. It would be nice to have a comforting, awesomely-simple game mechanic with gorgeously modern graphics. It seems like they are becoming forgotten in lieu of games like CoD zombies and Killing Floor and other wave-based shooters.

Search for Doom64 EX. It's exactly what you want.
Try Painkiller dude!
Thanks! I will look into it!
And dont forget about 'Hard Reset', that was waaay better than the last few Painkiller Games...
Really? I was playing the Hard Reset demo. I didn't like that it was all fighting robots. I want to blow a demon's brains out with a shotgun. I don't know what it is about Doom 3, but it doesn't feel much like Doom to me. I have played through the original Doom about 100 times over the past however-many years. I also decimated Doom 2 and Final Doom a couple of times, too. Hell, I even have the Fantasy Flight Doom Boardgame. It's fun to see the Cacodemons, Imps and Hell Knights in Doom 3. I love the look of the Cyberdemon; however, it would be nice to have it be a little less involved in a sort-of half-assed story.

I downloaded Painkiller - I got the black edition last night. It forced me back into circle-strafing again! I loved it. I thought it was well-made, though I thought the level design could have been a little better. It gets a litte repetetive: move to an area, get trapped, kill monsters, progress, rinse and repeat, you know.

But, Painkiller made the shotgun powerful, like it is supposed to be. Shotguns used to have an honorable place in videogames in the 90s. Doom and Resident Evil showed the awesomeness of a well-placed shotgun. And then, in Doom 3, the shotgun might as well have fired confetti. Four close-range blasts to kill an imp? Pshaw. Screw that.

But thanks so much for the recommendations! I am loving catching up on games that flew under my radar. I really appreciate it!
Yep dude, the Original Painkiller with its addon Battle out of Hell (called Black Edition on Steam) IS great, but dont try the following Painkillers, because they do suck. Honestly.

As for Gameplay, Hard Reset is really really good, the guys who made the Original Painkiller made it and i think it kicks ass. But yea, sadly, no demons here.

Also, the Super Shotgun in Lost Mission and Ressurection of Evil, c'mon admit it, is f*****g awesome!!!
I'm enjoying the Painkiller H&D... It just need more levels, but the gameplay it's awesome!
I just wish they would add it to collections so I can earn achievements and stuff, you know? I am a sucker for arbitrary points systems.
