Doom 3 BFG and windows 8
I've read quite a bit that BFG won't launch for a few people under Windows 8. I am on the Enterprise 90 day trial, and it won't launch for me either. Anyone know if this upcoming patch will fix that?

No, but it won't launch for me either.

Windows 8 is a baby, it was just released, so expect a patch of bugs and problems until updates start rolling in. Gabe Newell did say Windows 8 will be a nightmare platform for gamers, so you're better off sticking with the older windows for the next year until windows 8 matures.

Yeah, I am going to go back to windows 7 here shortly. Windows 8 still needs some work done.

I have been using windows 8 for a few day now and am a huge gamer and haven't had any trouble, so far. Don't own Doom BFG but so far all of the games I have tried work fine.

Some game seem to work better with Windows 8. Bioshock is one. would always crash on startup with Windows 7, but seems to run fine under Windows 8.

Works for me on Windows 8 after following the instructions on the Steam Doom 3 BFG support page. Have you tried this yet?

Thanks for the tip k.doyle.w. Running these two installs (as per the support page):

...\Steamapps\Common\DOOM 3 BFG Edition\directx\DXSETUP.exe
...\Steamapps\Common\DOOM 3 BFG Edition\msvc2010\vcredist_x86.exe

fixed it for me :-)

All-in-all I have to say I'm pretty happy with Win8 (this has been my only hitch). Metro sucks on a big screen, but it's easy enough to avoid.

Works fine for me on my old win7 & new win8 laptops BUT can't get any cheats to install - as a novice I need them. Any ideas please?

I don't think this game has cheats. Cheatcc.com only shows cabinet locker numbers, achivement discriptions, and such. If there are cheats, I don't know of any.

Cheats!!..How weak. Start on the baby setting before you play nightmare.

Bioshock crashing was most likely your system configuration, not related to the o/s itself. Bioshock works the best using wine 1.4 or better emulating XP. The mouse finally worked correctly when it run in Linux.
