ID are lazy nowadays
I'm not sure what made them lazy, the fact that Bethesda own them now or that the fact they a focusing more on the console ports than the main versions of their games... i mean where is the mod support for DooM 3 BFG edition? why does the semi-lazy HD of a game that had mod support had that feature removed?

Could it perhaps be that zenimax is pushing them a tad too hard for profits instead of letting them do their thing? Look at how the main guys are leaving to work on the occulus rift, that's not a company that's lazy, that's people leaving because the place they once had is no more.
I think it's also why bfg edition was released in the first place, zenimax needs to sell stuff. Rage didn't do great because they didn't get time to finish it. Doom 4 wasn't nowhere near ready for release, quickly make something happen=> doom 3 remake. And they probably had to remove the mod support not by choise but again, the money machine needs to roll and who's gonna buy their next game when they have plenty of play left in those quality mods?

oh... so Zenimax whipped them to make them do it... damn, they are starting to sound like EA

That's what I'm guessing atleast, it seems likely with how things have been going overal.

I just don't think a company like id Software is well suited to being owned by a large, profit-driven publisher.

Lol at "And they probably had to remove the mod support not by choise"

You do realize (most likely not) that Doom 3 BFG is a brand new game engine and it doesn't have mod support in the same way Doom 3 had ? They didn't have time to add proper mod support. Although judging how active Doom 3 modding scene is, whether it would have proper mod support, or it wouldn't, there would be no difference at all.

i am reta@ded enough to think that Doom 3 BFG is a brand new game engine and it doesn't have mod support in the same way Doom 3 had even though it runs off the IDtech 4 engine like the base game and quake 4 did? They didn't have time to add proper mod support. Although judging how active Doom 3 modding scene is, whether it would have proper mod support, or it wouldn't, there would be no difference at all.
they've been using the IDTech 4 engine since the origenal DooM 3 and that came out in 04 so unless it's 04 the engine isn't "brand new" anymore another thing to take note of is the ID tech 4 engine has showed us how much more powerful the modern consoles are than last gen consoles and having mod support for BFG edition would allow us to use the content from RoE and and (but not so much) lost mission.
But jokes aside you really have gotta check your facts before you say things like that.
(i mean compare a DooM 3 hellknight (http://cdn2.steampowered.com/v/gfx/apps/9050/0000002389.1920x1080.jpg?t=1357245275) to a BFG edition hellknight (http://cdn2.steampowered.com/v/gfx/apps/208200/ss_15559ce8d50ad32f959531815d21b10238fb7344.1920x1080.jpg?t=1350604826) and then tell me that it's a brand new enngine)

I am sorry to say that mate, but you have no clue what you are talking about. Doom 3 BFG engine is a blend of old idTech 4 and idTech 5. But of course you can tell that BFG uses idTech 4 just by looking at screenshots, instead of checking out source code.

Thanks quake4ever2007. Might as well link this: http://fabiensanglard.net/doom3_bfg/index.php

still that doesn't mean they can't mod the modding tools, i mean look at new games like Planetary Annihilation and Starbound they are going to be moddable and therefore the only exuse (other than zenimax's EAness) is lazyness because all they need to do is put some IDtech 5 in it (since there isn't much IDtech 5 it shoulden't be too much of a chalange, i mean it has about as much IDtech 5 in it as Quake 4 does)

"i mean it has about as much IDtech 5 in it as Quake 4 does" << and you head probably had as much brain as a rock does. Go get a useful book and read it, now.
Hinsonator Sep 6, 2013 @ 3:07pm
well it's true, it doesn't look or play that much better than quake 4... try defending people actually worth defending, people like Valve
motorsep Sep 6, 2013 @ 4:09pm
I am not defending any company here. I am simply clarifying the reality of things, because people like you (including journalists) who have no idea what they are talking about create perception among other users who are not savvy in the technology (and nowadays many aren't tech savvy, thanks to consoles, mobiles and generally smooth way of tech works) that Doom 3 BFG (and Rage) are such a horribly and sloppy games. And that really irks me.

Yes, BFG could have had modding. But, who cares for modding noways? Not whole a lot of people. Especially if a game has no Steam Workshop. BFG generally plays much better than the original Doom 3. Sure you can run Doom 3 with Sikk mod, but that will be pretty horrible experience for people who has no hi-end PCs (and majority don't have that). BFG runs smooth 60 fps on lower end laptops with low bandwidth VRAM.

Quake 4 is as old as Doom 3, there is nothing in it from idTech 5. Again, read some data, look into the code, read some news about what has been going on with idSoftware, before start threads like this.

Well it's hearwarming to see that you're so willing to tear down my mere speculations with such glee...I humbly appologise before your geecky knowledge of everything version and engine related in regards to the Bfg edition of Doom 3. May it bless your offspring for generations to come!
