EDIT: here it is: http://steamcommunity.com/app/208200/discussions/0/846958724796395601/
This exactly. I'm sure I'll love the game as soon as they update it properly or whatever. As for right now though, it's really hard to be satisfied with a game that won't launch at all.
What was the point of including it if you are going to get so much crosstalk/ghosting? Only way to fix it is to sit way back but I am playing on a desktop for christs sake.
I can run Original Doom 3 and DOOM 3 BFG in Win 7 with no problems and i´m using Nvidia Geforce GT 230 card, so there must be something wrong with BFG edition in graphics when people can´t play DOOM 3 BFG.
No. You are not the only to enjoy the BFG edition. I like it too.
Thanks for an awesome summary of the new edition.
My 2c - BFG is definitely worth picking up on sale. Full price - not really, but in the end it's between you and your wallet.
To the OP, 2 other improvements to the BFG verison is they have changed the hideous footstep sounds from the original into something far more subdued - gawd that used to be an immersion killer listening to clip-clop, clip clop as you moved about. Also the game is no longer frame capped @ 30fps. Circle strafing imps at 60fps with motion blur on is seriously cool.
Another point I want to make concerns the direction iD took with the Doom franchise; there will be those that recall from 2004 the sense of disappointment that they went from the run and gun roots of the first 2 games and went for a horror based crawlfest with a bit more story in Doom3, despite the general agreement it was a solid game.
It was almost like people felt they should have called the game something other than Doom. I have to say that this game has aged quite well, from a gameplay perspective. Really, how many of us still play Doom style games nowadays (I know, strafe running past your own rockets is neat, but that's besides the point.) It's all semi-realistic,military spec stuff nowadays.
The spiritual successor to the first 2 Dooms is probably Serious Sam but these sort of games only hold my attention for short lengths of time nowadays; this, despite us all being fanatics of the first 2 games, back when the genre was fresh.
Hmm.. that sucks.
My OS is Win 7 64bit. Both Doom 3 and BFG edition Doom 3 works fine.
My guess is BFG edition is not fully optimized with specific graphics cards.
Mine's GTX 460 and it works fine.
Oh, now you mentioned the other improvements, I can feel the difference too haha.
The fps are definitely much better optimized in BFG edition. I guess this is also a big reason
y I'm having better gameplay experience in BFG edtion than in original Doom 3.
Too bad it doesn't support mods or cheats though.
But as a Doom player since Doom 2 (floppy disk age),
and a Doom universe lover,
I had a lot of fun with it :D
I totally agree with your metions with modern FPS. It's all modern warfare background,
can carry only up to 2 guns, so many cinematic cutscenes that tries to mimick action movies, or esports style FPS games. I actually also like COD/BF style FPS too. But the problem is most FPS these days are just.. basically the same. No creativity in them.
it's more like FPS genre is now stuck with this... "formula".
Look at the biggest/most popular FPS these days.
1. Call of duty
2. Battlefield
3. Counter strike
Since they all take in modern age, they all have same background, same guns,
same suits, same all human enemies, same vehicles..
There are more other popular "online FPS", but most of them also
takes place in modern age too. The only difference is they are more focused with
"esports". So it's basically Counter Strike style. Most online FPS are.
Borderlands is FPS genre too, but it's more close to RPG in FPS style genre,
so I didn't put in that list.
I hope some developers take risks on changing the "formula" of modern FPS genre oneday.
I agree. I have never owned Doom 3 on PC and now that I do now. I see how the BFG editon is, I would probably would of payed more. ($15 or so) I have not had any issues running it.I'm running at 120fps and the game is damn scary at some points. I'm really liking it. I don't see what people are complaing about.
+1
