Is it just me or is this game easier than default DOOM 3?
Now I'm not the best at DOOM 3. I'm actually pretty bad at it though I somehow managed to beat it on Recruit a couple months back. I LOVE the original DOOM games though so I figured "what the hell?" and purchased the BFG edition. I'm playing on Marine difficulty because I'd like to beat my games on at least Normal difficulty from now on,

Is it just me or is this game easier? I'm not taking nearly as much damage as I was on vanilla D3.

i think it depends which difficulty you are on

It's been made easier, you are indeed correct. More ammo, more health lying about, faster movement. It was done in order to give the game a more action-oriented feel for all the newcomers. Marine difficulty in this seems to be about the equivalent of Recruit from the original, possibly even slightly easier. Sign of the times, man.

So I'm a couple levels in(Alpha Sector 2) and frankly I feel like this game fixed DOOM 3 in more than 1 way. DOOM and DOOM II never truly were survival horror games to me even on Ultra-Violence where ammo conservation is key. Vanilla DOOM 3's difficulty was quite cheap to me. DOOM 3 BFG now feels more like a DOOM game to me than a survival horror FPS and that's fantastic. Not really talking about difficulty really although the fact that I don't lose 1/2 my health in a couple shots really helps make the action that much more smooth.

Only major thing I don't like is how the flashlight doesn't make dynamic shadows in this one. I guess it's not a HUGE deal since I don't want a horror atmosphere in my DOOM game(all I want is balls to the wall action) but it's still a downside. On the other hand full widescreen support, great anti-aliasing, and smooth as butter framerate.

Ultimately while I don't feel that this is the best DOOM or DOOM II port(gotta love dat DOSbox/Zandronum) I feel that this is definitely the best DOOM 3 experience. Will definitely go back on Veteran after I beat Marine.

For example the last map in ROE "Hell" so have they deleted a whole segment of the map. In original ROE that map is alot harder and longer then it is on BFG edition.

I wasn't aware that any content had been removed from the game, other that some lighting effects.

This was my main issue with buying BFG edition. I heard it had been dialed back, and the new flashlight mechanics took away from the horror factor. I seriously considered just buying Doom 3 off Steam. I couldn't argue with finally having Doom 1 and 2 again though.

I just beat Alpha Labs 4, and I think that some of the platforming mechanics have been reduced or removed. You can't get to the early plasma gun the way you used to.

I always thought the original flashlight mechanics were great, real sense of suspense with it, but it seemed like everybody hated it at the time. I guess now that it's been changed, folks like us have come out of the woodwork to rally in it's defense.

I also already had them all on Steam, and on physical media (countless times, I might add), but I still thought BFG was worth it. The whole collection in one package is a big enough selling point for me.

uh dude, the early Plasma Gun is actually hidden on top of some pipes near an air-duct in Alpha Labs-Sector 3, once you operate a computer console to open the duct. I own the original "Doom 3" and i've done this countless times

did you ever try falling back to a previous room and wait for the poor S.O.B. to follow you, so you could plug him with the close-range shotgun blast??
